I changed my meal tonight and had spaghetti instead of noodles. Last night my 2hr reading of noodles was 8.1 and then I did check again at 3hrs and it was down to 7.4 - 8.1 was obviously my peak (please correct me if I'm wrong)

Tonight, my pre-reading was 5.5, 1hr later 6.5; 2hrs later 7.3 is there an easier way, rather than testing every hour to see when the peak is. I had spaghetti with a mince-meat and tomoto sauce.

I am trying....honestly... Amanda x 🙂

As far as I can see Amanda, you've got that bang-on. Looks like pasta and noodles peak somewhere around 2-3hrs.

And yup, unfortunately trial and error is all we have (along with the experience of others). Many peeps find pasta absorbs quite slowly (and therefore peaks later) and you've tested and found this is the case for you too.

Keep it up!

Looks like you can eat pasta and noodles, now move on and see what else you can eat. Your intentions and actions are highly laudable but don't get tied up in the minutia. If you haven't hit 10 by 1 or 2 hr you are going to be OK. Try eating a chockie Muffin and then test at 1 hr to see what I mean.

Thanks guys - I know I'm getting obsessed with this but I just want to make sure I'm reading tests correctly; I tested 7.3 at 2hrs and 7.3 at 3hrs - is this the peak. If so, as you say I'm ok with noodles and pasta.

I was slightly confused that I woke up with a 6.3; this is the highest I've had.

Sorry and thanks again. Amanda x 🙂

Pasta is well known for causing problems many hours later hence why you had a higher than normal reading this morning.

This is a personal view so please don't take offence by it. 🙂 You are trying far to hard and personally I think in a very short time you will end up with burn out and then do nothing about your diabetes. So give it some slack in the long run you will be better off just cutting down on carby staff. (Pasta, rice, spuds). There is no need to skip them altogether just have a smaller portion.
Concentrate on what you can have rather than what you can not have. 🙂

Amanda, if it helps I work to between 4 and 7 fasting level (before meals/morning) and 5-10 2hrs after meals. You are well within these limits so don;t beat yourself up over it.

Thanks guys - I do appreciate your support and help - I just struggle with numbers and the whole testing process...I appreciate honesty and am worried about becoming obsessed

I do have some good news 🙂; I once tried Tesco's granola with natural yoghurt and my sugars went through the roof; I added fruit; no change...

This morning

I tried granola with Oken (fat-free natural yoghurt); sprinkle of sunflower seeds and some walnuts. Immediately before 6.3. 1hr later 8.3; 2hrs later 8.3So replacing yoghurt with Oken has proved a hit.... I have bought some Moonflake Oat Bran..going to give it a try....

Now for my 4th simming lesson.... 🙄

Mornflake - 1/3 cup oat bran with 1 cup (either water or milk and water) - 4 mins in microwave stir and 1 min in microwave - pour into bowl and leave for 1 minute before eating - I add a squirt of Agave nectar, but thats optional and probably not a good idea.

P.S. you need a fairly large bowl as it froths up and all over the inside of the microwave if the bowl isn't big enough. - timing for 1 1000w microwave, try it and see.

of course you might have to have slightly less quantity than this.

If it makes you feel any better - I'm busted - succumbed to a choc chip muffin from the Co-op had a nice hot bath and tested before going to bed - 12.0😱
