I had a dinner tonight of cauliflour; steamed salmon and egg noodles. Immediately prior to testing my reading was 4.5. 1hr later 7.9. However, 2hrs later 8.1. Does this mean I have to test again at 3hrs?

Or could this have been the mug of tea I had with semi-skimmed milk; slightly more milk than usual I had after my dinner about an hour a go....

Or do I need to reduce the amount of noodle....

Thank you. Amanda xx🙂

I'd place a guess that it is the noodles.

Pasta has a really bad habit of releasing the glucose into your system a lot later then everything else - at least 2 to 3 hours later.

I was hoping it wasn't the noodles because I'm not so good with potatoes...:(
Is it portion size; I don't have a lot because its filling but might have half of what I had tonight and increase my vegetables. Its a toughie sorting out meals isn't it....🙂

That sounds like a great idea Amanda

3hrs later 7.4.

So to re-cap:
Immediately before 4.5
1hr later 7.9
2hrs later 8.1
3hrs later 7.4

So just going to reduce my noodle portion size and increase my veg size. So glad salmon is okkkkkk😉

7.9 to 8.1 is just stabilising and well within the accuracy of your meter, the milk in the tea could have levelled you out for a little while, unless you usually drop below that level. Don't bother with a test at 3 hrs.
The purpose of the testing is to see what does what to you, so try and repeat the meal and reduce the carb content as you suggested and see what happens.

Sorry missed above before I tested....

I would try the meal again to be quite honest with you. The body's response to certain meals varies depending on your current level of insulin resistance and amount of insulin stored after a previous meal.

I am presuming you are a pre-diabetic like me. I found that after 6 months of testing like a maniac your body just likes to do its own thing and BG levels can vary regardless of what you eat or drink. If they are high do not stress too much as it could be your body fighting an infection. If a meal gives you a high BG level then reduce the size and carb content of the next meal or leave longer between eating them.

Sorry if I come across as a smug now-it-all 🙂 But after 6 months I have stopped stressing too much and in some ways come to terms with the dreaded Pre-Diabetes fairy! I have lost weight and have found I can cope with more carbs than I could of 6 months ago. I consider myself extremely fortunate that I caught things early!

Take care!
