Woke up this morning feeling high - thirsty, dry mouth, needing the toilet....and straight away I reaslised. I FORGOT!!! to take my lantus last night :(

Feel like a total idiot.

We all forget our medication sometimes. Because I keep some of my tablets in my bag for work I sometimes forget to take them out for breakfast in the morning, or dinnerin the evening.

welcome to the club lots of us have done this.

Happens to the best of us...........hope today's sugars are not effected too much......🙂

Sorry to hear this Katie.

Your not an idiot though as lots of us have done similar things, or gone out and discovered that the cartridge in the pen is empty.

Hope that you manage your adjustment doses OK today.

The only way I can remember what to take and when is by setting reminders on my moby (I always have it with me). Otherwise, I'd always be missing appointments and forgetting to take meds.

Bleurgh! Sorry to hear that Katie

Will you take a half-dose to see you through the day, or just fire-fight with rapid?

Katie your only human like the rest of us babe your far from an idiot, with all the things we have to remember and have on our minds we are ALL bound to forget something at one time or another x

Yes, I've done it recently too, so I understand how you feel! But I think that it can become such a routine thing that a lot of the time we do it without really thinking. I'm sure you've also had times when you have started priming the wrong pen too, or times when you have injected but a minute later wonder if you did! Perhpas they should put a dye in it so we could see whether we'd injected or not, with the dye fading as the hours progress? Mind you, we'd probably forget to look!

Hope your numbers are not too bad today - some suggest taking a reduced dose and some correcting any highs with fast-acting. You'll have something to confess on your course next time! 😉

Thanks guys, you're all so lovely.

Just so annoyed at myself...especially as I've got to go back to my carb-counting course of Friday with a week's worth of results :(

I couldn't rememeber what I was supposed to do, so Alan and Mike - I took about half when I woke up this morning in a panic. No idea if that's right or wrong, or what I should have done....think that annoyed me too.

Great morning for feeling useless!!! 🙂 still, I'm having a D day off today. going to stuff my face and not care 🙂 (obviously I'll still inject but guess they're going to be high for the duration mostly).

Just make a note in your records of what has happened. I think one of the things they try to stress on these courses is identifying where possible reasons for highs and lows so you can try and avoid them. You will probably get a sympathetic response from the others.

When I did a carb counting course someone had accidently injected their basal instead of a bolus - and it was just used as an example of where you could spot where things had gone wrong.

That's what I did. Bear in mind that if you take your normal dose tonight you'll have more active lantus than you would do normally in a 24 hour period, as some of this morning's will still be active overnight - normally all your lantus would have been exhausted ready for your next dose. For this reason, I set my alarm for 3 am so I could do and overnight check.

thanks Alan. I am planning on taking my normal dose at 10pm tonight. (normal time). Could I reduce my ratio for my evening meal and then reduce the risk of hypos? or would I still need to wake and test at 3am? thanks

thanks Margie. I know the group would be sympathetic, my worries are those not-diabetic. I seem to find those people's responses to be more along the lines of 'how could you forget to inject?????' but hey ho...I'll give everyone else something to laugh about, and I will ask what I should have done, so I will learn something! 🙂

Going to bed a bit higher would probably be a good idea, but I would still do the test just to make sure - having to wake up and test in the middle of the night might make the experience stick in your mind a bit more so you are less likely to do it again - I know it did with me! :D

It will be interesting to hear what advice is given, and I think your experience will prove very useful to the group. Like you, I wasn't sure what to do because it hadn't been covered on my course, I just went off what I had read - but on your course, people will now learn what to do! 🙂

lol silver lining and all that! 😉 ok I shall reduce my ratio for dinner and test at hopefully 3am (bed by 11 and up at 6, so that's kinda in the middle)

Hi Katie. Agree with everyone else that we all forget to inject now and then and it's just a part of diabetic life. Not stupid, just human.

Not sure I'd recommend picking today to eat without counting. I tend be a bit old school maybe but rather than ignore the D, could you just have what you want, count the carbs and cover them with the appropriate amount of insulin ?

Don't want to see you getting poorly.

thanks Rob. I have just tested...19.1!!!! so going to be doing a whack of fast-acting as just about to go into an hour long meeting! hopefully by the time I'm out it will have come down a lot.

Yeah, I don't really feel too great hi anymore so think I will still be carb-counting and injecting 🙂 no point letting it all go to waste now!

How could you forget!!! No sorry, I'm only joking.🙂

Carol's done the exact same thing. I didn't know what to do either, but I did exactly what you did, I told Carol to inject half the Levemir.

I don't think that anyone (non-D included) will say what I just said at the top. I take tablets every morning, but I have forgotten to take them. I even forgot to pack them for our holiday once. Luckily, it didn't matter.

I hope you'll feel better soon and you come down from that 19 (((Katie)))

I've never really thought that I can take a day off from it all. I've gone for periods without testing but still estimated carbs and doses and reacted to feeling high/low with a correction. I was pretty good at it in the end.🙄

But, tempting though it is, I believe that a day off is just trying to hide from a part of yourself that you don't much like. Better to try and deal with it and find ways of doing the stuff you want within the bounds of it.

But we all have different pressures and stresses, so I guess it's easy to say and hard to do.🙂
