Had my first retinary eye examination on Wednesday; received my letter from NHS this morning confirming there are no changes to my eyes due to diabetes..blah blah blah...

Will see me again in 12 months time...

That was a quick reply.

So pleased 🙂

Must be a lovely feeling! You're doing so well! 🙂 Katiexx

Hi Katie, more of a relief, just got to carry on doing what we're doing.... big hug () Amanda x 🙂

Fantastic news and so encouraging. Lovely to get those results so quickly, I think mine took about a month. Well done on a good result.

Great news and in a speedy time as well. Well done Amanda

That was quick! And a great result too!

I had my test on 12th September and got my results today. Reaaly pleased that I too got a 'normal' result. No retinopathy and no change from last year. After all the fun and games earlier this year I was worried there would be some damage. I must be doing something right to still be 'normal' after 8 years. 🙂 XXXXX

That is brilliant news - well done. Take care, big hug {{{}}} Amanda xx🙂

Congratulations to both of you on the results! Very jealous of the turnaround time too, I had to wait 4/5 weeks for mine! :D

Yes, well done to Faith as well 🙂 Because I have been to the eye hospital for my last two times I find out within the hour, but before I used to have to wait a fortnight then go to my GP to find out as they only send a letter if they find something wrong!

I haven't had this done yet, am I correct in thinking that they put drops in the eyes to dilate the pupil and then take a photo of the retina? Am I also correct in thinking that I won't be able to drive straight after this test? I'm already blind as a bat (-8 in my right eye and -6.5 in my left) so hoping this test won't show that my eyesight is even worse!

Best wishes
Zosema

Hi Zosema, the drops aren't always used, it depends on whether your pupils dilate sufficiently without them. If you do have them then you won't be safe to drive for around 6 hours. It's not an eyesight check, although they will probably have you read a chart before starting. 🙂
