I went to my doctor this morning and got an appointment for 10.30. I am coping with depression, and while I have been on meds before. I decided to face my fear and go and speak to my doctor about it. Will keep you posted

Good luck Rustee, very sensible to get some advice.

Good luck, and remember if you have any questions write them down so you dont forget to ask.

I'm always forgetting lol:D

Good Luck with the appointment - the first step to getting better is to acknowledge that there is something wrong.

A brave and sensible step. Well done and good luck.🙂

Update... The Doctor was a locum and she was quite understanding. I explained my trepidation about going back on anti-depressants. She said do not look at it as a failure. I filled in the questionairre. Then she asked me would I like talking therapy as well. She explained it is commonplace for people with diabetes to have low mood. She prescibed Sentraline, and asked me to come back in 7 days and see how I am doing. I suspect my family and some friends are gonna have a field day. Telling me not to go on those things. However, if someone was an asthmatic, they would never DREAM OF TELLING them not to get medication for it.....

I hope the medication helps Rustee. People have some very misconceived ideas about anti-depression medications, unfortunately - possibly even more than they do with diabetes!

You are quite right about the misunderstandings! I read that a lot of people are undiagonosed, got the symptoms of depression and when it's not treated it can lead to other symptons later on......

This is almost exactly what was said to my mum yesterday. She has been suffering from depression and anxiety since my Dad passed away 3 years ago and been on anti-D but our new GP hasn't been great with her at all so she is reluctant to go back to see him. Had an appt yesterday and the lady said as you have above, but used diabetes as the example. It is an illness that needs treatment. I am really pleased you have had a positive outcome today.

Well done for going to the doctors, I really hope it the anti-d's help. There are some misunderstandings about them, but like you said, it is important to do what helps you not worry about what others say. I am taking them too and they have helped me, along with talking to my psychologist.

I'm glad it went your way. Well done for going to GP, I know that was a difficult step.

It's none of your friends' business that you're on anti Ds. So just don't tell them. And with family, only tell if necessary.
