Hi all

Am working hard at trying to lower my bg through diet and exercise and in the main am doing ok. By cutting down on carbs and switching to low gi foods, I have managed to lower my bg to mostly mid to late 5s pre-meals, low to mid 6s post meals and (hallelujah!) below 6 in the mornings! This morning fasting reading has taken a while to achieve! However... I had a curry last night (I know!!). Mixed kebab starter and a small helping of lamb bhuna and half a portion of pilau rice and this morning my bg was 6.8! Yikes! This a rare treat as I have been avoiding such meals since I am trying to lose weight.

This is the highest morning reading I've had for some time and gave me a dilemma. Do I eat breakfast or wait a while to see if bg comes down? Do I eat and will that help the insulin to kick in (I am prediabetic)? Or, do I go for a walk then eat a low carb breakfast?

In the end I waited an hour (bg didn't come down) then ate poached egg on Burgen bread (no butter). Right or wrong thing to do?

I'd appreciate any advice you experienced people can offer me as I am feeling really despondent this morning! Finally, I'm giving up the curries and sticking to tandoori mixed grill and salad which seems to work well for me!

Hi Katie

All I can say it what I would do in that situation.

Basically I'd have my breakie as normal and then go out for a walk or do some form of exercise. That way it should knock any "high" number carried through from pre breakie on the head and pop you in a better range for pre lunch 🙂

Just what I'd do of course & as we know we's all be different.

Thanks for that Sarah. Just re-tested after an hour and a half of eating and down to 4.9! Any thoughts? Seems like I should have eaten straight away instead of waiting!x

I'd carry on my usual day from then on if it were me.

Afternoon/evenings are always my worst time! I do exercise to get levels down only to find that they rise again once I've been sat for a while 🙄

Constant pottering is what works for me.

Katie, you are doing brilliant...I am really struggling with breakfast; porridge spike me to 10.2 and Allbran an incredible 11.1. Going to try something different tomorow. What type of meals are you having to have such good post-meal numbers..I am so jealous and getting really frustrated. Big hug. Amanda 🙂

Hi Amanda (thanks for hugs)

Just re-tested 2 hours after and back to 5.7 which is my daytime norm at mo.

I know you can't do porridge or weetabix which is what I normally have in the week, but for lunch I usually have a salad with either chicken or fish with a handful of nuts and olives in it. I follow this with a low fat yogurt or a piece of fruit usually a satsuma or necatarine. I will occasionally vary this and have poached eggs (2) on a thin slice of toasted wholemeal or scrambled eggs and smoked salmon.

In the evening I have meat, plenty of veg and a small portion of either new potatoes or wholemeal pasta. If its pasta I usually have either smoked salmon with quark cheese mixed in or meat free meatballs (frozen and cooked in oven) with a shop bought low fat tomato sauce (fresh in a tub). If hungry I have a low fat yogurt and a handful of berry fruits.

This seems to work for me and maintain a good weight loss.

Love Katiexx
