Boots are probably one of the most expensive healthcare shops in the UK (IMO).

If you search for whatever type of strip you need, making sure they're compatible with your meter, then check the buyer's feedback, you can go for whichever one is cheapest or sounds better to you.

Most stick to the going rate, but occasionally you find someone who's just getting rid of some and you can get some really cheaply. We had to supplement my supply last year when the GP's was questioning how many I was having but I needed to keep a track of things.

I have purchased 50 x Accu-check strips; use by date August 2012 and paid ?14 including post and packing. This was double the cost in Boots. Just got to be careful with the expiry dates and bidding too high x

I think we spotted those ! :D

Bargains are out there if you can afford to watch and wait.

Hi Rob,

Strips arrived today; expiry date is November 2012 - so pleased with price. Now just need to sort out this testing malarky and just take it easy. I'm very confused about food  what I can eat; what I can't eat but I'm sure by testing will find out exactly what is right and what is wrong for me.

Amanda x 🙂

Excellent. Just follow the advice of the experienced T2s and you should find out soon enough.🙂

Bit of a side step here.... I would never have thought of buying strips on ebay.... I presume you are happy that you are getting the real thing... do you stick to one Known/recommended seller... if so can you let me know which seller you use.... would save me a fortune as I supplement the "ration" I am allowed on NHS by buying them in Boots, thanks for any guidance on the subject

I wish I'd done this :( I, rather embarrassingly, ran out of my strips (always on prescription) whilst I was in Isle of Wight on holiday. I was so embarrassed I couldn't face going to A&E and saying I just had run out, so I went to Boots and was shocked for 50 they were ?28!! They'll last me 2 weeks max.

On the flip side, I have a new-found respect for my free prescriptions, and also the fight some of you T2's have with your drs trying to get them on prescription.

Back before I was re-diagnosed I was refused strips and bought mine off eBay as I didn't have funds to pay the full price. They were always genuine and 'in date' but you do need to be careful and only buy from high scoring sellers. I did have some moral qualms about it but felt I had no choice. It was as well I kept testing as it formed part of the ammunition I needed to get my diagnosis checked and amended.

I'm convinced that testing (at least in the early days) is essential for T2s in order to understand what food and exercise does to the numbers and how to help improve their health. I regard itg as part of the preventive regime we all need to mitigate or even avoid the complications that can plague us all. Ignorance is not bliss.

I don't think you should be embarrassed. We all make mistakes. When I was first diagnosed my dn forgot to give me test strips with my meter and was shocked when I went to the pharmacy to get some more. I didn't need very many as I was due to see my dn in a few days so I just bought another meter for ?7 that had a few test strips included. Much cheaper and I now have as spare meter.
