Hi - is anyone online? I'm having a bit of a freakout. I'm having a hypo that I cannot seem to shift. I've been trying to get my BS up for over an hour now, heading for an hour and a half. The highest I've managed to get is 3.7, but I keep going back down. Treated twice - first with gummi bears and 2 nairn's oatcakes, now with a glass of coke and a sandwich.

I'm running out of test strips, and I just need someone to calm me down.

Hi Becky, hope you are feeling better soon! I've had the occasional hypo that just seems to keep dropping - for some reason maybe the insulin absorbtion has been poor and then kicks in all of a sudden, not sure. Keep eating the gummi bears - better to be high for a while than drop too low.

Best wishes

Have you tried jelly babies or glucose tablets? As it is a bit cooler today, maybe a warm drink might help? I hope you shift it soon.

Hi Sacredheart , Im online , are you ok babe ?????

Hi Becky

I am online but about to dash out to a meeting but just to say, hope you feel better very soon. those pesky hypos that take ages to comeout of are a nightmare, but be reassured, it will go up eventually. In the meantime try to sit or lie still and not stress (!) too much just to make sure you're not using up too much energy! Are there other people nearby you can let know what's happening to reassure yourself that someone's got an eye on you.

Let us know how you get on.

I'm trying to keep it together, but for some reason this one is REALLY getting to me - I've gone up to 3.9 now, which is better. I'm on the phone to my DSN and she's just told me to get rid of the Novorapid.....

Hi Becky , I hope you are feeling better now. I get hypo's like that , they

are very scary and seem to take ages to come back up . Your mood will be

probably down to the hypo you have just had , I get really bad moods when

hypo. Just try to relax , your levels will come back up soon , sometimes it

takes a little while. Have you tried drinking Lucozade ? I find that it hits the

system really fast and is good for rapid drop hypos. Have they said why they are

thinking of stopping your Insulin ?

Hope you are feeling better Becky. It is frightening when you are on your own. Keep in touch with your DSN. Try to keep calm. Thought that if you're type 1 you would have to stay on insulin perhaps like me you are type 1.5. Let us know how you get on.

Hi Becky, are you feeling better? I hope everyones support has helped.

Don't forget to back up the sugary stuff with some low GI carbs, like you did with the oat cakes and sandwich - er am I teaching my grandmother to suck eggs? When I have a real low reading I fell a bit panicky and tearful - hope the feeling has passed and you're OK.

And now they're talking about taking me off insulin altogether

Hi Becky, as you're very newly-diagnosed it may be that you are in the 'honeymoon' period, and that your pancreas has started producing its own insulin. This may be why the nurse thinks you need no insulin, or at least a very low dose. What doses have you been taking?

Thanks for all the responses, guys.

I'm up to 7.4 now, so that's much better. Consultant and DSN have had a conflab, and have told me to stop taking both my lantus and novorapid. So no more insulin for now. 😱

Got to monitor my ketones, but they think I'm really deep into my honeymoon, and this is causing me to spend way too much time hypo.

I'm really scared about coming off insulin though, as I'm terrified of ending up going far too hyper. :(

I was on 10 units on lantus to start with, which kept dropping by 2 units each time, so i was on 6, with 2 units NR with breakfast and evening meal

Well, those are tiny amounts, especially the NR. I'm currently on 9 lantus, but around 35 NR through the day. I can imagine that it must be worrying if you're being told to stop the insulin, just try to 'pretend' that you are still taking it, and act normally as you would if you were (if you see what I mean!). Keep testing, and hopefully your levels will stay nicely in range. Get a bigger supply of strips if you can, so you're not worrying about running out when you really need them - I get my repeat when I still have 100 strips left! Also, make sure your ketone testing strips are in date, or maybe you can get a blood ketone testing meter from your DSN?

Glad you're feeling much better now, what a horrible experience. It sounds like it's the honeymon period to me, it must be scary though coming off the insulin but I guess so long as you're monitering it then you'll be able to know when that's coming to an end.

Sorry only just spotted your thread! Hope your feeling better now? In future if your in any doubt - just eat jelly babies - better to be a bit high for a couple of hours than to feel so awful with a hypo. Your dsn wouldnt take you off insulin if she didnt think there was a good reason - so dont worry i am sure you will be fine!🙂Bev

Hope you are feeling better now, sorry i just seen this thread myself.
