I Sunday I suffered a TIA (Transient Ischaemic Attack) which is a mini stroke. The Dr decided that I should stay in hospital overnight, and have a CT Scan. My speech was back to normal and my arm was not numb, CT scan was clear. I had a nap and woke up with stumble over my words and my arm and right leg were numb. The Dr said that I had gone on to have a stroke, the MRI scan showed a clot was responsible and affected the Left Parietal lobe. My BP was raised when I was admitted, diastolic was 107, Cholesterol was 6.6 and LDL and HDL were bad as well..

Am at home and still have a numb arm and leg but my speech is getting much better.
 
I'm sorry to hear your bad news, but it is good you got help quickly. I hope things continue to improve for you and you are back to normal soon.

Sounds really scary......................your really brave................it just shows you how important BP and cholesterol are to everyone, especially diabetics, I hope you recover to full strength as quick as possible..........🙂

Sorry to hear this Squidge. It's clearly something none of would see coming.

My GP urged me to keep taking statins because of the increased risk. Your warning is a stark reminder.

I'm pleased your recovery seems to be swift, but no less frightening I'm sure.🙂

Sounds like a scary time for you, get better soon and thanks for the heads-up.
 
Sorry to hear this. Your medication makes no mention of BP or cholesterol lowering drugs. The BP could have been raised by the shock of the TIA. Are the doctors putting you on anything like a *april (best BP drugs for most diabetics) and a statin - my GP practice puts anybody above 6.0 on one immediately. They may also recommend a low dose asprin. Good luck and try not to worryto much.

Sorry to hear your news. It sounds as though things were detected fairly quickly which is essential with strokes. Hope you continue to make progress with your speech and in general.

Wishing you a speedy recovery, that must have been VERY frightening for you, thank goodness it was detected quickly, my OH is battling with his BP and cholesterol at the moment :( thanks for the warning xxxx

I'm so sorry to hear about what has happened to you. I hope that you are able to get both your cholesterol and blood pressure under control and make an excellent recovery.
 
Wishing you a speedy recovery and thanks for the warning. We can get into discussions about which drug is better, whether to take them or not and forget why we are taking them in the first place!!

I had been on statins in 1999, first simvastatin, then atorvastatin and then rosuvastatin, the Dr at the hospital has added Ezetimibe which will hopefully help with my statin to get my cholesterol down again. Also have on cardiac drugs since 1999 with some changes over the years. Recently my BP has been on the lower side (95/38), so my GP reduced one of my tablets. When I was on the ward my BP was perfect, as were my blood sugars. I was on Aspirin 75, but am now on Aspirin 300mg and on Wednesday I stop that and start on Clopidogrel.

Thanks for your best wishes 🙂 I never thought that at 47 I would have a stroke, even though I had the risk factors. It is a shame that it has taken a TIA and a stroke to make me see sense and see the error in my lifestyle, the importance of a lower fat diet, eating 3 meal a days, and keeping a strict eye on my blood sugars..
