I've received a phone call from my doctors surgery, asking me to go back into see the doctor this afternoon, as he wasn't happy about the way I got treated yesterday, and there's something else he wants to go through

Ok I had a high HbA1c test, he told me I should have sorted it by now.

Has anyone else had this happen to them.

Hasn't happened to me Aileen, although I am fortunate to have received excellent care on the whole since diagnosis. Is this the same doctor you saw yesterday? I think I read a post from you yesterday but it looks like it may have got lost (along with my reply!) in yesterday's maintenance work on the forum. I seem to remember your HbA1c being in the 12s and the possibility of you going on medication?

Yes its the same doctor, I'm seeing today

yes the post I put up did disappear yesterday (never mind, these things happen, with maintence), It will be interesting to see what he's got to say. Just thought it was odd that I'd get a call to see if I can come back in, when things were relatively normal.

Good luck Aileen and try not to worry (easy for me to say I know!). Go armed with a load of questions and don't come out withot answers! Let us know how you get on. Thinking of you. Katiex

Well, it is good that he has called you back then so that he can discuss things when under less pressure. I guess it was preying on his mind that he really shouldn't have sent you away with nothing helpful. I wouldn't be surprised if insulin was discussed today as you really need something effective to help you get that HbA1c down. I hope the appointment goes well 🙂

(I was replying to this earlier and when I tried to post it had switched to the 'old' forum and wouldn't let me! Re-booted and seem to be back with the new one!)

Good luck Aileen

Hopefully something has niggled in the back of his mind and he has realised that maybe he wasn't all that useful yesterday.

Hi Aileen,
I bet you he has read your notes now and realised he has made a big clanger.
If he says sorry accept the apology with good grace and also point out you can not make progress as no education has been given or offered. So perhaps he would be able to arrange all this for you. Plus test strips so you can find out how different food affect you.
Good luck with your apt hope it goes well for you.

Good luck today Aileen. My previous Doctor wasn't too helpful so I moved. The care from my new Doctor (DS Nurse, Nurse Practitioner) is absolutely fabulous.

Good luck 🙂

Doctor's Appt

Ok, I got an apology from the doc for having a rushed appointment, when it was clear it shouldn't have been.

He still thinks I should try D&E first before being put on any medication, as I had not ketones in my system, but will be put on tablets if need be, come my next HbA1c test in 3mths. As he's happy enough with my daily testing being regular at the least and not too high. And I have made suitable changes to my diet

He also believes I've got or had CFS which won't help matters. Though my understanding of that is that half the symptons are the same as diabetes, need to read up on that, as not 100%.

Been referred to the local Diabetic Clinic at the local hospital, now waiting for that appointment

Glad to hear things are a little clearer and that you've got an appointment with the clinic - hope it comes through soon! We have a couple of members woh have also suffered CFS, so you may be able to swap notes if they are around. Still very surprised that no meds have been given yet, ketones or not. Many people get put on meds if their HbA1c is above 7%, seems there's no consistency!

Guess we'll see at the clinic, I was told it will be about 2 weeks, so if they decide to put me on med's

A link to CFS info or atleast a small amount - sadly I can relate to these

If my experience is anything to go by, on my first appointment at the diabetes clinic, they took one look at the numbers I'd been recording and my HbA1c (9.9%) and put me straight on Metformin.

The biggest pain was that the consultant could only write prescriptions that could be handled by the hospital pharmacy and they are very busy - a minimum of 35 minutes wait to collect.

You may (or may not) wish to read NICE Guideline 87

Thanks for the ref Mark, at least there's always the cafe's in the hospital, if its sunny sit outside the entrance. If it comes down to that.

I just hope I don't still have CFS, as that would be another thing to learn to deal withl.
