Forum planned maintenance, 1st September 2011

Perhaps it has and it all went sooo smoothly that we didn't notice, as in the main with planned maintainance most chose to carry the process out during the night/early hours so least disruption caused to users..

If DUK are like other UK charities I've been involved with, it's more likely that they don't start till 9am and it just hasn't happened yet.

Especially given that on my work connection (which I'm using now) a DNS/IP address change does take 24-36 hours to percolate through!
 
Very weirdly one laptop wont let me on as it says planned maintenance is taking place yet the other lets me on no bother
 
I'm just enjoying the distraction that this forum is bringing me till my appt in a couple of hours. :(
 
Is that why it won't let me post a new thread. I keep typing it and it keeps disappearing. :(
 
I take it that all maintainance has finished :D:D
 
I tried several times to post earlier but it kept disappearing. I'm hoping this will work now.
 
I think that what might be happening is that, because some people are still pointed at the old servers some posts are going there and some are going to the new servers. I just logged back on and there are 30 posts less than when I last logged off (including some I had posted).

Very sorry about this, I suspect this might be due to it taking up to 24 hours to update all the servers around the world (DNS servers).

I'll now watch and see if this disappears! 😱
 
Now I am back on line (mobile b/b) tried a few times today. Three times in was unavailable but could not log in on fourth. It probablt thought my I address was dodgy - National Lottery did!
 
I've been getting a "Site under maintenance" message since yesterday and couldn't access the site at all. I've been so lonely. Boohoo, sob.
 
just posted a reply to a post it has put my reoly onto anotherpost and now i cant find the orignal post i repyed to aaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhh
 
Alan what is happening !!!!!!!!!!! that post where i asked you if i was going mad and you replying no i wasnt have both disappeared and me and steff posted loads on the island we was really letting our hair down and have a boogie and they have all disappeared feels like we are living in twilight zone at mo is there 2 lots of forums operating ??????

Hi Jenny! I have been equally confused! I think THIS is the 'new' version of the forum and the one most people have been accessing, but the 'old' version (which DUK told me had been 'switched off' has remained accessible to some people. It's all to do with the internet's DNS Name Servers tat translate web addresses into IP addresses so your computer knows where they are. Unfortunately, it takes up to 24 hours for these DNS servers to get updated, so some have been pointing at the old version. Beyond my control I'm afraid, but I've informed DUK.

Shouldn't someone suggest to DUK that they disconnect the old server and that way we can't post to both machines and get very confused.

Right now I get a different server each time I connect 😱

I've been in touch with DUK Mark. They were under the impression they had 'switched off' the old forum before commencing, but clearly something was still allowing posts through. It switched on me mid-post this morning! 😱

We are going to look into ways this confusion can be avoided should this need to be done again - lots of lessons learned I think!
