I had my retinopathy result in the post yesterday. Everything is fine with no signs of retinopathy and I will be called back in one years time.

The not so good news - my readings 2 hrs. after a meal are usually in the high 5's or low to mid 6's. However this morning I felt hot and dizzy and took my BG which was 10.4. I think thats the highest I've been. Do I need to do anything or get advice at all. I will take BG again at noon and see that it is then. Any advice would be welcome. I am not on medication, just diet and exercise.

Maybe you are coming down with something. Keep an eye on it.

Hope it comes down for you Thelis.

In your position I'd be tempted to go for a brisk 30 min walk to see if that helped.

Have you eaten anything different to normal? As Kate says, you might be coming down with a bug or something. Personally I wouldn't worry about a reading of 10.4 but I am type 1 and get those sort of readings too often after meals. Check again later and it continues to be high you could phone your dsn for advice. Just another thought, did you wash your hands before testing?

As your readings have been so good, I wouldn't worry about it. It is likely to be a blip, but do keep an eye on things just incase. Many members use their levels as an indicator they are comming down with something. I hope everything is OK.

Great news about the eyes! 🙂 I wouldn't worry too much about one rogue result, and although it is higher than you are used to it isn't excessively high. It's good that you recognise when you are higher than normal though! 🙂

Thanks for all the advice. I'm now back to normal with pre-meal BG of 4.8.

Hi there, I have been newly disagnosed and am really interested to know what you're blood readings were when you we're first diagnosed (fasting); (random); did you have symptoms etc... and how you have managed to keep your diabetes under control by diet and exercise. I am really working towards this myself.....thank you xx

HI,

When I was first diagnosed at the end of April this year my fasting BG was 8 and my random was just over 10. The only symptom I remember was how tired I was all the time. I used to eat quite alot of pastries and cakes which I have now cut out more or less completely. I have yoghurts or tinned pears or apricots in juice instead. I never have tinned fruit in syrup, always in juice. I think I've only lost about 4lbs in weight and I'm not very good at excercising since I had a knee operation. Do keep in touch and let us know how you are getting on.
