Type 2
Hi - My first post
Diagnosed Type 2 in 2006 (I think) Since develeoped cardiomyopathy and atrial fibrillation. 2 cardio- versions failed so I am on a shed load of tablets. One of these was only temporary thank goodness. Amiodarone affected both my INR levels (warfarin)and weight. Sluggish. Sometimes dizzy. Feeling better now ami stopped. My weight shot up while I was taking it even though I was following the weightwatchers diet.
Anyone else a WW member who is not losing weight? My thyroid test came back only slightly raised.
I will persevere but its very hard.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Sorry you have been having so many problems - you could take a look at the food and weight loss sections on the site. There are so many things that can affect warfarin even diet, anything with vitamin k in it can affect the amount you have to take. (I know someone on it and when they eat lots of cabbage - they get more regular appointments).

In some parts of the country a Dr can prescribe exercise - even walking may be beneficial.

Hi sparkjack. Welcome 🙂

Sorry to hear about all your health issues. I can't really offer any advice but I'm sure we'll have members with experience.🙂

I too was diagnosed about 6 years ago with dilated cardiomyopathy and atrial fibrillation. Cardio versions failed. Amiodarone killed off my thyroid. I recently swapped warfarin for rivaroxiban so eating is less restrictive and bloods only annually now. I have done both sw and WW. I’ve gone back to SW and now do the SP version. Low carb in order to reduce my bg as a priority.Losing weight remains slow but I think my body is just finding living with an aneurysm very hard. Does anyone else on here live with one?

You know you’re talking to yourself, right? 🙂

Hi @SparkJack, like you I also live with cardiomyopathy, I now have a dual chamber ICD that keeps me on the right path, along with the meds of course! I am also type 2 diabetic and really struggled at the start to know how best to approach things. I chose to follow a low carb diet having read back posts here for hours on end to learn as much as I could! My biggest challenge was exercise as even a short walk had me huffing and puffing with chest pain, I had really bad angina pain and needed my gtn spray daily, it was clear that exercise would help bring my blood sugar down but I felt so frustrated by my limitations. So....I started with a goal to get to the top of my road and back.....it took me ages and did result in one night being taken by ambulance when I pushed too hard. Don’t get me wrong, it’s been hard work but I am now just over a year in and have my bloods in normal range, I am walking around 45 mins most nights, I borrow my neighbours dog as it helps me pace better, when the dog stops to pee I get a breather! I have lost 4 stone in weight and haven’t used my gtn in 6 months. You will get so much support here to help you through this, it’s certainly not all bad and for me, I have no doubt that becoming diabetic has probably saved my life. If you want a buddy who understands the complexity of cardiomyopathy then I would be happy to help :D

Thanks Cathy. You’re experience and the willingness to write on here has lifted my spirits up and spurred me on. I can be positive and tackle the type 2. This will make other things easier to deal with.
Breakfast was a treat this morning: 1 slice of rye bread, 1 boiled egg, thin slices of Comte cheese and 8 mini asparagus tips with a dip made out of ricotta cheese, lemon juice and chives. I was able to enjoy this after the school run.
I need to exercise but at the moment can’t until decisions are made about my aneurysm.
Good Luck Cathy.xx
