Yesterday I went on the first of two courses called Spotlight on Diabetes. This first course was given by a dietician and the second one in 2 weeks time will be a diabetic nurse and podiatrist.
There were only 12 of us on the course sat round an oval table on which there were 3 jugs, water, sugarless orange juice and blackcurrent juice - which were very welcome
Although the course was interesting there was nothing really that I didn't already know that I had learnt from this site and all the literature I have.
I think also that 2 hrs. was rather a long time, especially for the partners who accompanied the diabetics.
However I shall attend the second session and hope I will learn more.🙂

Did the dietician say anything that contradicted your own experiences? Was testing mentioned, or will that wait for the DSN session? 🙂

Would certainly be interesting Thelis, to hear what they say and how it compares to what we know and/or see as best practice.

I hope the 2nd session proves to be more informative.🙂

I don't think there was anything said that contradicted to my own experience. Testing wasn't mentioned so will no doubt be in the DSN session. One thing that amused most of us was that just 8 chips constitutes a portion of oven chips. I think I can remember her saying that HbA1c should be 6.1% or below. I was told by my DN that it should be 6.5% or below.

I go for my first retinopathy next Weds. Any tips on this would be most welcome.
