thank you all for the great responses. i hope to have a review again and hope it will be an independant review to. i have written a letter to my pct and also nhs trust explaining my situation and that although i have good control that i find it incredulous they will consider people who dont want help before those of us who are willing to help ourselves and save them a heck of a lot of money in the long run. i even feel like just stopping being good (but i wont) as i feel i am being victimised for being a good diabetic.

well folks sorry if i seem to be carrying on but it just grates me 🙂

Hi Mike.. sorry to hear your news :( I hope you manage to sort this out .

Am I right in thinking it is Whiston who are causing you the problem ...or

is it St Helens

B*stards .... I was under Whiston until the Diabetes Centre moved over to St

Helens Hospital. Why have they said you cant have one, because of your

control or is it purely down to the cost??

due to control. it is as good as it will ever get. i dont go over 7 and i never really go lower than 4. i have my 4 doses a day and need no correction doses that often as i carb count.

Oh i see .... If your control is so good why do you want a pump??

Is it so it is easier with work commitments etc  I know alot of

people do have pumps and it opens up a whole new way of life for them,

It wouldnt be for me at the moment though .. If you want it then dont give

up!!!! keep fighting for it .... we will all back you up!!!

mike how the hell do you get your levels so spot on?

this isnt fair :(

"i want to go on a pump as for work it wil be easier than having to take my insulin pens with me. i work in some really nasty places and really could do without having to worry about it."

Perhaps a pump user can confirm, but I think that pump users still have to carry spare insulin delivery devices (pens / syringes), plus tubing, cannulae etc to change every day, even a spare pump, so I'm not sure you'll have to carry less.

but when i actually go out i would only need the pump. i have had it confirmed by my dsn who is all for me having the pump due to work and even tho it wont be the most sophisticated one it will be robust enough for me to use in the environment i work in.

i carbcount and take very good care of myself by exercising regular and also drinking lots of water. i have cut out things like tea and coffee. have no sugar in my diet except for a couple of treats i have once a week. i also am very lucky that my body is still responding well to the insulin i am on. i also changed insulins as my basal was a very old one and didnt cover me for 24hrs where as now im on lantus it does. i also still test 8 times a day. :D

other than that katie i dont know why?

Like I said, if it's the way you choose to manage your diabetes, that's a good enough reason and if there are other reasons which add to this and your DSN is supporting your choice, it's just crazy you're not being given one. Like the others say - don't give up. Have you spoken to DUK about it?

lol glad i have inspired someone lol :D only kiddin.

i do feel that the more proactive we all are with our health and not just diabetes but our overall health the less we cost the nhs and the better we feel in ourselves. it is all about being in control and i am a control freak lol

Mike
Your an inspiration! If Alex has even half your mind-set when he is older then i will be very proud of him! Well done - and dont stop fighting for that pump - if it makes your life easier then why not have it? It will eventually pay for itself and you will live a happier life if your happier with the tools your given! Did you get in touch with input?🙂Bev

i sent them an email yesterday, but have no reply yet. im not gonna give up on it even if it takes me fighting till the time they plan to have just given everyone one.

Mike - just a quick note - having done pump course - once you are on a pump - you are on a pump all the time. You don't take it on and off and mix it with MDI. So it won't be just for work - but all the time. But your arguement for getting it is the work issue right?
Canula's are changed every 3 days.
Most pump people tend to keep spare insulin and pens in fridge for an emergency. When I go on a pump I certainly won't be carrying all that with me! On MDI at the mo (same as you!) I only carry one of everything! My theory is that I always return home and if something does go wrong - I know not to eat carbs and will sort it out when I get home - one day of running slightly high is not the end of the world And to date the only problem I have had was when I actually forgot my insulin pen - for the first time in 20 years a few weeks ago - I blame it on pregnancy brain!

yeah it is the work issue as i dont reall have the space to carry everything i have to right now and sometimes have to keep extra stuff nearby just incase. i always come home at the end of my day so i to will be able to have my extra's in the fridge waitng for me if i needed them. it is still all about using your noggin and being sensible about it all if it does happen to go wrong, but it is more aboujt the freedom of not having to take a tonn of stuff with me.

lol my sister had gestational diabetes and she had a memory like fish!!!!
