Hi all,

I have noticed over the last week my eyes are even more blurred now in the mornings. When I was first diagnosed in June I had blurry vision but it seemed to almost go away - now its very bad in the morning and i am struggling to focus. It does get better as the day goes on but I struggle to work until about 10.

I haven't tested at breakfast as limited test strips and need them for around exercise and hypos, but might test again tomorrow to see.

I had my retinopathy check recently and all was fine.

Any ideas?

I'd go and have them looked at. Don't forget that just because you're diabetic, it doesn't mean it's diabetic related. People have head aches because they've a head ache not just because they're low in sugar.

Are you sleeping less for instance?

Hope all turns out nice and bonnie for you.

I have already had them tested and it is just in the mornings and then clears - only its much worse in the mornings than has ever been.eg I don't need glasses for distance but this morning took me ages to be able to read the posts - is a bit clearer now but still blurred and difficult to work.

I'd probably agree with that. I get the occasional period where my eyes seem to get quite 'gritty' and blurry too. So far it has been clearing up within a day or two so am just assuming it's 'one of those things'.

But if it continues to bother you, then it's just another visit to the GP I'm afraid.

Andy 🙂

Alternatively, have you changed washing powders or fabric conditioner recently. Could you be mildly allergic to your bed sheeting/pillows?

Could be due to hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia which can both cause blurry vision, without testing it is impossible to tell so I suggest you test just the once tomorrow and find out if this is the cause.

Ah could be as I did have a 3.1 in the night! Although on other days I have had the blurred visio without the hypos.
I will test tomorrow if still blurred and see what it says.

Andy - why would wash powder make your eyes blurred? I am interested although I haven't changed mine. They aren't sore or itchy - jsut blurred?

Thanks all

Hi Lucy - just when you thought things were getting better.

Have a word with your optician - who can check for you. Do you have any discharge or watering that could be adding to the situation.

Hope you get some answers.

Nope - nice clean eyes and not sore or itchy - just blurred. Its starting to improve now but goes from really difficult to focus and read anything to clear and back to normal by abou ten. Just a nuisance as an accountant and have work to do!:(

Just throwing an idea into the mix re: an alergic reaction. No reason beyond that. 🙂

The hypo explanation would seem to be the most likely tho.

Andy 🙂

Thanks Andy🙂

If it were a contact allergy, it could affect any part of you. I have a pal who can't be in the room with an open packet of peanuts without swelling up. Having said that, could your sinuses be a bit bunged up in the mornings and clearing later on? If your eyes were a little dry or gluey first thing, that might be the cause.

Nope - no gooeyness or anything and now I can almost see clear again!
I will test my bs tomorrow if still the same which I expect it will be.

Thanks all.

I get this in the mornings if my sugar levels are high. Do your eyes feel heavy or just burry? My GP told me that if you are high you have more water in the back of your eyes to dilute the sugar which can make your eyes feel heavy and vision blurry. If they aren't heavy then it could be a hypo symptom. I would check in the morning to see what is going on 🙂

Low sugars affect my vision - it's one of my main warning signs. With me, it's a flickering of vision rather than blurriness though. An alternative may be if you are hypoing in the night without realising and then having a rebound high when you wake, or possibly Dawn Phenomenon is pushing your levels high in the mornings. I think only testing will discover if it is a proble with levels. 🙂

hmmmm...I think somewhere in these results may lie the answer.

This morning fasting bs was 6.5, got ready and drove to work with just a decaff coffee so half hour later was 3.7, had my 25g scotts porridge with skimmed milk (no sugar) and after 1/2 hr was 9.9 and now 1 hr later am 11.2

Incidentally the eyes blurred straight after eating the porridge! Does this mean porridge is off the menu now - if so such a shame as it stops me being hungry.

I also don't understand why the bs are swinging about so rapidly. I am also concerned that I didn't feel hypo at all on my 3.7 and my numbers did improve very quickly when I ate the porridge. Could any of this be due to the metformin?

So confused...and blurred again!

Might be worth having a chat to the docotor or DSN too and see what they have to say. As your vision clears through the morning, I wouldn't think it is anything too serious.

May also pay to get some eye bath (optrex or something similar) and bathe your eyes at bed time and again in the morning to see if that makes any difference.

I had blurry vision 3 or 4 years before I was Dx with Diabetes, and it was found that I had arthritis in my neck and that was causing it, headaches can also be caused by neck pain.

May I suggest you speak to an optician?

I hope things get better soon.

And another possibility - I too have arthritis in my neck and it has really flared up this week!

The human body is such a complex thing!🙂
