Sooo annoyed just had to have a moan!!😡😡

Wanted to see gp today as is my day off work, called yesterday but they would not give me an appointment, you now have to call on the day at 8.30 any you will definately get one, or so i was told!!

Called today around 8.40, no appointments!!!! I played the diabetic card im afraid and said i realy would like to see my gp asap, told that the nurse would call me before 10.30 and if necessary would give me an appointment (thought they had all gone??) ok, so left my mobile and home number.

NO CAll!!!

Called at 11 am, was told rather rudely that the nurse had called and my phone was dead? Said well i am ringing you on it now and i havent left the house? Could she call me later, no as too busy. told to call back tomorrow for same poor process, explained I am working tomorrow and thats why i wanted and tried for two days to come in today, she started to raise her voice and I told her that it was not necessary to do this as I had followed their procedures and would just appreciate a call later from the nurse, no go.

sooo p*****d off! sorry but i am, gues what my headach is now so much worse!!!😡

wow thats bad!!!!!!! the least she could have been was sympathetic and explained it all with out getting agro at you!!!!!

i do feel a lot of the so called receptionists are far to big for their boots and need knocking down a peg or two.

if i were you i would call in to the surgery and ask to see the practice manager and then explain to them what has gone on. failing that threaten to get the local paper involved stating you needed an appointment due to you being diabetic and if none were available you would have been happy to see the nurse. oh and make sure you send a letter to the practice manager to incase you cant be seen by them. also keep a copy of any letters you do send.

They have been very unprofessional and incompetent - no wonder you're angry! You'd think, as someone who takes responsibility for their own health, they'd be obly too leased to support you. Hope you get seen soon and good luck with whatever you decide to do about the situation. Hope your headache gets better soon. 🙂

I had a problem with a receptionist over prescriptions once and when I mentioned I was diabetic and needed it sorted she sorted out straight away even though she told me it couldn't be done at all before??? More like she could not be bothered to sort it out for me I think.

thats a disgusting way to be treat , i have a friend in a diffirent sugery to me but she is always told the same thing we cant get you in now but ring back tomorrow morning and we can get you in and when she does the phone is engaged for ages and she is then told when she gets through wlel madam the doctor could ring you back and maybe we can sort you out , i told her thats unacceptable .
hope your head ache has clamed down tracey xx

I'm sorry to hear what happened to you at the doctors.

I used to have that problem at my old surgery. In the end after similar problems I just used to turn up just as the surgery opened and said I would wait to see a doctor because I couldn't get through on the phone.

OK, I could hang around for an hour or so but I would be seen.

yes i did this once and i waited 1hr 45mins people kept saying to me are you here for the day as they went in and out after seeing him , and i said no i've actually been trying to see him for 3 days and gettin nowhere so if i come down here in person he cant turn me away, they laughed

thanks everyone for your replies 🙂

yes i am much calmer now and headache bit better, but basically there most of the time.

I have told work i may be at docs in the morning, and i will phone again and insist on getting in in the morning! I usually never go on work days but feel i have no choice with this one.

You are right about complaining and writing letters, but am so busy at the mo, no excuse I am doing loads of work on my days off, that i feel too exhausted to complain. I know i should, but does it really get you anywhere in the end. I feel my hospital care is excellent but the gps? the gp i try to see is good, just the other no marks there 😱

thanks again for listening!

If I need an appoinrment quickly and there are no appointments I say I'm going to the hospital because I am diabetic and I can't wait anylonger.

At our doctors the receptionists get a lot of grief from some of the nastier patients, but that is no exucse for them to be off witthos who genuinely want help.

Hi Tracey,
Did you get an appointment this morning? I hope you had a word with the gp about the system they have? Ours is exactly the same - but if your ring at 8.30 they are always engaged and then when you get through they have no appointments left! All gp's seem to be getting busier - but ours has also extended its hours but still cant fit you in on the day you are ill. Bev

Hi Tracey

I have had trouble with my surgery, I once rang to speak to the diabetic nurse was told she was with someone, could she phone me back, never did.
One time she rang me a month after I had had a blood test,to give me the results which was high when i asked why so late, she actually told me she had had forgotten!!!
Another time only on my second visit to her she took a call from another patient was on phone for some time - yet could not take a call from me when i had rang.
If I could speak to her it would only be during surgery time it would certinaly not be out hours as have no number.
I find the whole ordeal of going to see her very frustrating she very often yawns all the way through my visit!!! makes me fee as if I am wasting her time.
Dont get me on receptionists I cant even go there.

Take care

Sheila

Some people don't deserve the title 'healthcare professional' - she doesn't sound as if she cares, and she's certainly not professional!

I used to ahve the same problem at time at my old GP surgery, only offered on the day appointments but as soon as the phone lines opened you couldn't get through. could always get an appointment if you phones before 12 they guarenteed that, but the most popular GP's went within fist half hour. So i used to go down to the surgery as soon as they opened to book my appointment for later that day with my own GP, i wasn't working at the time so it worked out well.

i suggest you write a complaint to the practice manager

thanks Bev, and all who have posted. yes i got to see the doctor.

Am very shocked now as i was convinced i had neuralga? No it is stress, the doc was great, very thorough . Unfortunately he wants to put me on low dose of antidepressants. But since getting home i have read the leaflet and am very wary and dont want to take them. Its only a low dose, but the side effects sound horrendous. And there is a possibility they could mess with my bg levels, doesnt sound worth the hassle.

would be interested if anyone else on antidepressants and if have any side effects from them? thanks all :(

Tracey, what symptoms are you getting? - I have been stressed with workload and work over last few weeks, and every time I do a bit of excercise, the next day I've been feeling absolutely exhausted, almost like I did before diagnosis. Was thinking of seeing doc. However, I do find Yoga and running is very helpful with the stress, and will plough on. Just wish I could retire! (I got caught in that group who could have retired at 60, but now it will be 65 - ages!) I guess you must have been suffering some pain if you thought it was neuralga. Why is he prescribing anti-depressants for stress?

Basically i get really bad pains down one side of my face, right side, behind my eye, in my cheek and into my jaw. It does come and go and only painkillers relieve it but only for a short while. It does tend to be worse during the day when working, i have a pressured job and do feel quite stressed with it at the moment, i take work home and always seem to be working on my days off lately. Feel like the only me time i have is when im on thi forum lol!

I asked why the anti depressants as im not depressed, he told me it highers your pain threshold and is not good to continually take pain killers. But when i read the leaflet 😱 too much to go into, but just does not seem worth it. think i may have to try relax more and get back into my excercise, have stopped recently as no time. I can understand why people need them if they are depressed but im not. Also i asked if they can affect bg levels and he said yes  so why bother.

Hi Tracey,
I am afraid i would ask for a second opinion. If it is depression then fair enough - but the pain is always in the same place,so i wouldnt have thought it was caused by a physcological problem? The more i read your symptoms - the more it think it is neuralgia. I know that anti-depressants do work for the people that need them, but i was given them once and i have to say they didnt agree with me at all. My whole personality changed and i became someone i didnt recognise. I stopped taking them and reverted back to my old self. But please understand i am not saying dont take them - but just be wary and ask the pharmacist every question you can!
Do you have another doctor at the practise you could see? I am not sure swopping painkillers for anti-depressants is a good idea. Let us know what you decide either way. Take care. Bev x

Thanks Bev, the doctor said it wasnt neuralga because that pain is burning and stabbing, and mine is more an achy pressure feeling? I do agree with youthough, i stil think is neuralga. He convinced me in the surgery, to be honest he is the only gp at the surgery i trust as the others i have had problems with and dont trust their opinions whatsoever. I cant bring myself to take them as im not depressed and i have a feeling they wont do me any good and can give me too many adverse side effects. The gp told me not to take painkillers and keep a diary of the pain, when and how long it lasts and wants to see me in 2 weeks. I will go back but im not taking the medication.

I will try to relax, have not brought work home tonight and am still thinking about when i will catch up lol! I wish i didnt have to work, life would be so much easier. :D

ok, so done a little research, although the drug is used to treat depression it is prescribed in lower doses to treat/pain relief for migranes, neuralga pain and face and jaw problems in general! Guess the gp does know his stuff after all. dont know what to do now, will sleep on it and decide tomorrow. 🙄

guess if i get any side effects i can stop, and it said should only be prescribed for 3 months, what then?
