bubble inside insulin

Hey all,

At lunch time I went to use my novorapid and noticed that it had a wee bubble in it, so I decided to change to a new cartridge just to be on the safe side incase the insulin didnt work.

Just wondered if it means that the insulin shouldnt be used or is it ok to still use it with a bubble inside??

Hi babe... yeah good question :confused:

mine always have bubbles in... i use them anyway and have been ok.

i just make sure i prime the needle with a couple of units each use.

Hi hun,

Yeah its fine to use as long as there are no leaks in the cartridge or it is broken.
Just do a couple of units air shots, before you inject each time

Is your novorapid in prefilled cartridges?

In the dim and distant past, when we had to use cartdridges and separate syringes, we always had to get rid of the air bubble in the syringe once we had drawn up our insulin so we didn't inject it, but I don't think air actually affected the insulin itself.

Meant prime it, as you would have done with your syringes, I just call it an air shot

I have to put the novorapid cartridge thing into a silver pen.. but thats all i need to do and i turn it to a couple of units each time just to see that the insulin is comin out the needle.

I cant quite remember why, but sure i read that the bubble is meant to be in there and does serve a pupose, all my cartridges contain this bubble. sure someone can tell us what it is for? :confused:

Cant find any info on bubbles, think i must of dreamt it lol!:D

on the leaflet with the insulin, it says may contain small air bbbles whch are harmless, but if the size of the bubble is too big it may make the dose less accurate??😱

aww rite i c, well this bubble is tiny.. there isnt much insulin left in that cartridge thing so i have just decided to not use that one anymore. its the first time i have noticed it in 4 years so hopefully its a one off lol
 
If you flick the pen cartridge a few times with your finger it gets rid of the bubbles, my DSN showed me when i first went on it :D
 
you know when you are watching tv/films and they turn the syringe upside down, flick it and then squirt a bit out? it is exactly the same with our pens. I usually just flick them to the top so that it doesnt get into me (if that makes sense lol). Dont worry though, it isnt enough to harm you if you accidentally inject it into a blood vessel - you may just take slightly less insulin because of the air.
 
is it a bubble or a clear ball in the insulin??? i have novorapid and mine all have a clear ball in them (looks like a bubble) but never goes with an airshot aimed upwards.

I would actually say it looks more like a clear ball but is very like a bubble lol :confused: and when i turn the insulin upside down, it moves with it..

sounds like the clear ball placed in it(for what reasons i do not know lol) 🙂

lol i wasnt even making a joke 😛

i just looked at the old cartridge i took out and it had this "small ball" you speak of. so i whacked it against the table and it turned into lots of little balls (i.e. bubbles) 😛
