I've been having for breakfast porridge with blueberries on top, i've been weighing it out and it says 40grams of Blueberries is 0.5cp's so i count this is my insulin dose.. Anyway i keep having midmorning hypo's so i'm now thinking maybe i shouldnt count it.. I remember the DSN told me not to count cherries as they're so low with digestion is want make any difference - any thoughts?

Hi Chezpez

I find some berries don't seem to need to be counted. I think fructose doesn't need insulin (or not as much) to be processed out of the bloodstream.

Maybe some of that carbohydrate is fibre as well, which doesn't get broken down in the body. The skins and seeds are probably mainly fibre.

Thanks for the replies - thats what i thought.. just another question i'm gonna start having lowering cholesterol drinks i think the Benecol are about 0.5cp would you count these into your insulin dose.. Also does anyone know if they have lactobacillus in them? you know like yakault drinks do? Ta

Are they like yoghurt drinks? I've never tried them but I'd probably count the 0.5cp and see what happens. I always count the carbs in yoghurts. Don't know about lactobillus, sorry!

A small amount of blueberries aren't worth counting and I would just bolus for the porridge.

Blueberries are fab, I only really recently discovered them and they taste yummy and hardly affect bgs. WIN WIN!! 🙂

Zackly! I love the things and often have them with yoghurt for brekky, or rather brunch these days since I can't cope with breakfast. I also make a yoghurt smoothy with them as they're sweet enough that you don't need sugar added.
