Hi Tez,

I would be interested to look at the findings of the blood glucose levels before and after - and whether anyone had eaten previous to the experiment. It does seem an odd risk - but interesting to know.🙂Bev

I've just done a quick google search and apparently it's scaremongering being circulated by supporters of one particular 'scientist' who has claimed for years that electromagnetic radiation can cause all sorts of health issues despite the rest of the scientific community disagreeing.

One blog article here http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/?p=6897

One thing I will say is that no way do they last ten years like they claim! I've got through loads since I started using them over the past couple of years or so and I'm really not convinced that they last any longer than the old style ones. (writing this because the one in my lamp has just gone after about 3 months 🙄)

One more thing to worry about ah well.Right old style light bulbs I have replaced all the bulbs except one. I moved to the house I'm in mid 1979 and the one in the bathroom is still going strong it is the one I have not replaced. Do not know when it as put in but hope it last a bit long

We have energy saving light bulbs, and they have been introduced at work. I can't say I have noticed any difference, but to be honest I can't say I have looked for it either.

Remember the scaremongering of the Microwave and the mobile phones! We were all going to get cancer, tumours and die an horrible death etc etc etc..

Now it's the lightbulb!

Says it all...

The question has to be asked, how come they think that diabetics will fall for their scaremongering tactics more so than others?

As to the life of the lightbulbs, the ones I have lasted a fair while I know my first one lasted 7 years, kept the box and wrote the date on it 😱

Me I hate the light that they give off or should I say don't give off, if for any reason I have to prime my pump after dark, these bulbs make this process a nightmare, as it makes it extremely difficult to see the bubbles in the tubing or cartridge😱

Ellie, treat yourself to a new bulb as they have improved. The older ones take forever to come on and then there is a strange quality to the light but the newer ones are better.

You need to be careful with these bulbs if they break, you have to ventilate the room for 15 mins, use rubber gloves to clean them up, put them in a sealed bag and take them to the tip and put in hazardous waste..

I reckon I'd have to try a lot harder to break a low energy lightbulb than an old style incandescent bulb - I have broken a few old type bulbs, but never any low energy ones i nthe 10 years or so I've been using them.

Thanks for the link Copepod - useful for me as they don't last anywhere near ten years for me - do they for you?

Had to change one for the first time a couple of weeks ago, when it started flashing, probably connected to installation of new electrics - solar panels on roof. So, yes, nearly 10 years.
Having got several free ones from electricity companies and environmental events, plus stocked up when supermarket sold them for 10p each, we must have several decades supply left. 🙂
