I buy the. Lindt 90% too. I find I can get away with 1 square and no insulinLindt do a 90% - 14g carb per bar, so only 1.4g per square - although my preference is for their 85%. Our local Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Waitrose all sell it.
Lead and cadmium levels are an issue in Moser Roth dark chocolate ..I'm on holiday in Portugal at the moment, popped into the local Aldi and found that they have a 90% chocolate at only 3.2 g carbs per portion. I usually get their 85% one at 5.2 g carbs. A few of these will be travelling home with me .View attachment 35820
Not just Moser Roth, Lindt is being sued in the US for claiming that their chocolate is 'expertly crafted', when it’s been found to have lead and cadmium in it, they probably aren’t the only brands either. I guess it depends on whether I'm going to have a couple of squares, or eat a whole bar in one sitting, as to whether this might concern me. (I’m not going to eat a whole bar..)
Very much the case in the US, which is still common law based. We’ve tended to follow the EU, which is Roman Law based, and ends up with everything potentially dangerous being fenced off, whereas in the States, as we found when we visited several National parks, provided they’ve put a notice up telling you there’s a sheer drop, you can get as close as you like to the edge of it!@Robin the Lindt law case is interesting. At issue is not the fact that the products contained lead and cadmium but that knowing this was the case, Lindt did not inform Californian consumers of the fact as required under a Californian law known as Proposition 65.
The EU does apply a strict level of permitted amounts of lead and cadmium in chocolate and for chocolate containing more than 50% cocoa solids (dark chocolate) it is set at 0.80 mg/kg.
Yes, I never really got the chocolate+chilli combination. It just tastes wrong to me, but chocolate and ginger is lovely. It is Green and Black's dark chocolate with ginger.
I was on holiday in Portugal a few weeks ago but concentrated on pastel de nata 🙄I'm on holiday in Portugal at the moment, popped into the local Aldi and found that they have a 90% chocolate at only 3.2 g carbs per portion. This has got enough cocoa in it for me:@Martin62 there seems to be much more dark chocolate around at the moment. I found a 100% dark chocolate and almonds bar (Montezuma 100% dark chocolate) at the Grapetree shop in Tenby when recently on holiday. It is an interesting taste, but not unpleasant.
I normally get 70% and upwards dark chocolate and have recently been given a large box of Hotel Chocolat batons with both 70% and 80% dark chocolate batons in it.
I also had one of those a day with an espresso, very nice .I was on holiday in Portugal a few weeks ago but concentrated on pastel de nata 🙄
