Tommorrow will be my 3rd trip to the hospital this week, I am really not sure what im going for... I know its a test of some sort but dunno what!!
When I went into see the consultant yesterday he basically couldnt explain me not being back to my pre preg doses yet (15 weeks after giving birth) I was pleased though that he didnt spin me the old "its just hormones" line!!
He told me that my thyroid was completely beggered so I have been given the full dose of levothyroxine to treat it being underactive (have to stay on this forever he said 😱)
My bp was 110/60, no signs of anemia anymore coz im on iron from gp, have to wait 5 weeks for the coeliac panel thing to come back and my Hba1c was 5.4% which is not bad news at all!
He started going on about wanting to send me off for a test (tommorrows one) Now I dont know what its called so cant google it, but it involves me being there for an hour... getting blood taken, then having an injection and then having another blood drawn again  the tubes of blood get sent away and stuff and i wait two weeks for these results
Supposedly this test can only be done at 9am in the morning, I know its diabetes related... does anyone here know what it is or have heard of it?

thanks 😱

Have you been told not to eat and/or drink anything beforehand? Could it be a Fasting Blood Glucose?

He didnt tell me not to eat or drink, only thing I can think of is something to do with my bodys reaction to the injection! Hope he is not getting any ideas that im not type 1 anymore! I was diagnosed at 5 and now 26, It cant just go away!! my pancreas cant just wake up one day and decided it working again!! lol How awesome would that be though??😉

Great hba1c still 😉 not so good about your thyroid but at least they've found out about it. I have no clue what the test is, but I hope it goes well and maybe you can enlighten us about what it's called lol 😉 xxx

I know this won't help much, but the description rang a bell. I have memories of something like this, but I'm afraid I can't remember what the test was for. 😱 (If it does come back to my feeble brain, I will let you know)

Well hopefully you remember! If not im sure they will explain it all tomo!! Imagine the doc not telling me what he was looking for!🙄

Lou, it sounds like an ACTH stimulation test, althoguh there are a few different tests like this, so it might not be (please ask them, don't take my word for it).

They take blood and measure the cortisol

They inject adreno-cortico-trophic hormone, which (I think I've remembered this right) is somethnig produced by your brain normally, to stimulate cortisol production from the adrenal glands.

They wait and measure the cortisol again.

By this time, you should have increased blood cortisol. If you aren't producing enough cortisol (e.g. Addisons) or are producing too much Cortisol (e.g. Cushings disease) it'd pick it up.

I don't know anything about human medicine but I think it's quite rare. In animals, CUshings disease and Addisons are quite treatable, usually with tablets. Cushings definitely makes diabetes hard to control.

In animals, they obviously can't tell us they're feeling off, so the first signs of CUshings are usually a swollen tummy, loosing weight from other places, sometimes hair-loss. Drinknig a lot, weeing a lot and hungry. In people, I think they find it and sort it out a long time before that.
The sympoms tend to go back to normal when they start the tablets

Hope this helps and as I said, ask your doctor - please don't take my word for it.
