Omnipod Insulin Types

Does anyone use Fiasp in their Omnipod?

I've tried for a few weeks but didn't get on with it, I found it unpredictable.
So back to Humalog.
I know a guy who's getting on well with it, he's 40 yrs younger than me so may be more adaptable.

Give it a go, nothing to lose.

Yes in the dash and now Omnipod 5.
And when I set up 3 other T1s where using it too.
It’s not “approved” I believe but I think a lot of diabetics under the same team are using it.

Josie is currently trialing the T Slim pump due to 2nd/3rd day absorption issues with the Omnipod’s. But to be honest it not the most practical and she ain’t a fan although the numbers are decent. Just having a general read up to see if we could use Fiasp in it and found a few (lots actually) saying Fiasp gels up when it gets warmer? Now I’m wondering if that’s what was causing the issues with the Omnipod’s originally? Wondering if it’s worth trying a few Omnipod’s with Novorapid to see.

Yes this is what my nurse said, there was some evidence of it crystallising in some pumps, in some circumstances, not just Omnipod. He said it was worse in longer tubes.

I think I’ve had one example of that, around the cannula it was crispy and on the skin too.

I’ve not noticed issues with mine and it not working on the third day, unless it’s leaky.

Has she been on novorapid before?

For me it wasn’t “rapid”, was okay, if high it struggled to bring down as well and there’s a slower working speed so longer wait time before eating. But found it a good insulin for years.

Is the T Slim not going well @Tom1982 ? You sounded very enthusiastic about it. Or did you mean T Slim? I’ve confused myself now!
Hahaha sorry yeah the t slim pump is really good and I’d probably have it if I had to choose but it definitely gets in the way for what is basically a miniature wrestler  Just trying problem solve again!

Fiasp is much better for her to be honest, all this waiting to eat is a right pain. How are you getting on with the closed loop stuff? That would be the ideal scenario for us but I’m sure the reactions and lack of absorption as the days went on would mess the algorithm right up! Could sacrifice the Fiasp if it meant a working pod for the full time.

It’s all about the accessories @Tom1982 I spend a lot of my life wrestling - wrestling small children! - and I’m not aware of my pump at all. It’s in a Hid-in belt snug around my waist and I’m so unaware of it that I sometimes pat myself to check it’s still there :D

I’m so fond of the belt that I rarely use anything else, but I’ve also used a Tubigrip and a little bag thing that held it well. The child I know who uses the T Slim is a little younger than your daughter and they use a little pack like a bumbag that sits in the small of their back. I remember watching them have a tantrum and roll around on the pavement and their pump was fine :D

Ah no don’t you start!!!! Whilst it’s not her favourite, the missus and Jo are at least having fun with it. I think there must of been 20+ Amazon and Temu (or whatever it’s called) deliveries in the last week or so. All manor of belts, pouches, holders and even cloths to accommodate a t slim! Meanwhile I’m walking about in duffed up old jeans

It’s an important choice @Tom1982 :D Not for fashion reasons but comfort. When you find the right belt/holder, you just know. Think of it as like buying shoes

Seriously, here’s a Hid-In link. They’re the only belt that I’ve re-bought multiple times as they’re very soft and the strap thing is fantastic. It never goes saggy or anything like that, so always stays exactly right:

I just have a plain black one, which I wear constantly. You choose the belt size, and then choose the pocket size according to the pump. The lady who started the company has Type 1 herself.

Actually that looks more manageable than some of her current options! They are good but a bit fiddly and not ideal for my giant foam style hands! Will get some on order!

Better on the G6, no connection issues now. So that’s great.

Overnight is perfect, sleeping well, life changing.

Waiting for my next set of bloods will look at the data, results etc and then decide what I think.

We it’s not any better TIR and it’s not the smartest or fastest HCL, I’m not sure it’s much better than me actually. It’s about the same it’s good days are great I don’t think about my diabetes, only tell it my carbs and exercise, and forgot about it but it’s bad days are awful and it’s slow at working out the trends if it’s not going right. It’s a mixed bag.

I second the Hid-In pump belts,
I could not have survived my tubed pump without one. So much easier to get my pump in and out of than other options and held it steady in most situations without too much bulk.
The only time it fell out was when I was doing a back flip on a flying trapeze but this was not a common occurrence so I’ll let that be.

Hid-In could use that as their marketing slogan  Bit of a dearth of trapezes here on a Sunday, so I’ll give that test a miss😉

I recommend checking out Circomedia in Bristol next time you get the urge.

Are exercise and sleep settings effective? I must admit, I do miss having a hand set. Having to untuck her cloths and mess about with the nice tidy set up is bloody annoying. But if exercise mode is decent when she’s playing it’ll be worth it.

I've only ever used pods, absorption is a problem (humalog) I always thought it was a local site problem, often a small inflamed lump where the canular sits. I've not heard of the gelling up problem, I'll try to discuss with my team at the next appointment.

It depends a bit on my insulin usage but I usually manage 48hrs (around 50u) between pod changes, sometimes if I'm at home I can stretch it to 60hrs.

Sleep is great, its not a setting but the system manages overnight.

Exercise only sets the target lower, which may work for some depends if the aim is to avoid low.
For rugby I never use it unless we are having a cardio heavy session. I am more likely to go high with rugby, especially matches.
I do use it for walking, hovering etc. as its quite good. As I remember the lows could be an issue for her, also pausing the insulin (only in manual mode) is handy too.

Cheers Richard. That’s the exact same problem we had. They were suggesting an allergy to the cannula material and I just assumed that was it. But the more I think about it the less convinced I am. The small bump and levels shooting up, so annoying.
