I'm T2 and in the last year have lost a stone in weight, started walking more and my levels have become good. But I'm now being woken inthe night with pain and a horrible stiff feeling about my ankles,It isn't like crampand itis hard to describe. No painin the day and no foot problems. I'm on Mtformin and glimepride. The glimepride are fairly new , maybe been taking them 6 months. I'd welcome any suggestions that may help

It would be worth getting your Vit B12 checked but sometimes these things can be a mystery.
I have been getting a lot of leg and back aching and discomfort and had a whole raft of blood tests and all except 2 are absolutely normal, I was really hoping they would reveal something, I suspected B12 but No normal.
If it is like cramp then magnesium gel can help and staying well hydrated. If it feels muscular then something like Volterol to rub on.
But certainly worth speaking to your GP to get checked

I'm not sure i can help but it is worth considering that not everything is due to diabetes. I had terrible aches in the back. After some discussion with the GP and a bone densitromity scan, that was diagnosed as due to osteoporosis. Similarly, foot pains at a different time were caused plantar fasciitis.

Oh...now I was diagnosed with a vitamin B deficiency and have been given tablets to take , that could well be the answer, thank you. It's not cramp but using Volterol hasnever occurred to when I do have cramp (usually when I've given in to temptation and had a slice of cake!) Must look out for magnesium gel, never heard of it. Again, thank you

Long term use of metformin affects the ability of the intestine to absorb vit B12 from foods and as such also oral medication so vit B12 injections are normally required.
Magnesium gel is what the sports people use when players get cramps.
Volterol is more for the muscle/joint pain as it is a topical anti-inflammatory rather than the cramp as such.

try your gp its most probelly nothing to worry about

Sorry to hear about your leg pain @MaryKate

If the VitB12 tablets don’t rectify your deficiency, I think some members here get injections, which seem a more robust way to top-up the levels.

Hope you get some relief from the aches and pains soon, and work out what’s behind it and how best to treat the cause.

I haven't completed the first course of tablets , another 2 months yet to complete the course but seems strange the problem only began happening after I started taking tablets. However someone at our coffee morning started takling about her problems with neuropathy and now I'm worried that may be behind my problem. I booked an appointment to see a docter but that won't be until mid June. Although I've been diabetic a number of years I've never really understood it, think I'm very confused. My readings I thought were good, my bp is also good. So now while I wait for this apointment which will be after a holiday, is there anything anyone can suggest might help?

Thank you so much for all the help I've had , at least now I feel I'm not on my own

What in particular are you confused about @MaryKate ? Do ask here. There’s no such thing as a silly question 🙂
