Porridge blueberries walnuts a little honey

Same as me but without the walnuts and honey. I have to stop though as some people ( me ) can't tolerate oats!! My sugar is awful after porridge. Try Greek yoghurt with Blueberries and walnuts and lose the honey and see if that helps. Also bacon and eggs or any eggs if you can stomach them in the morning

Many thanks will give that a try.

Hi and welcome.

How high are your levels? It is normal to start people on a lower dose than you expect them to need and then carefully titrate it upwards until you find a good balance point of keeping them in range most of the time without risking lows (hypos) or going too high. How long have you been on insulin and is your nurse or doctor who started you on insulin, in regular contact to adjust doses?

Can you give us the name of the insulin or insulins you are using?

Insulin needs vary from one person to another as well as being dependent on lots of other factors like diet and exercise and illness and ambient temperature and stress and alcohol, to name but a few factors, so it is really tricky finding a dose that works well and particularly for older people, it is important to prevent hypos as they are more likely to cause a fall which can of course result in broken hips etc.

It may just be that they are still trying to get your dose right, but if you can answer some of the questions above it will help us to advise you as to what is reasonable and acceptable or if perhaps you need to chase someone up to give you more support or perhaps adjust your doses.

Hello there

Thank you so much for your message

Well sugars after breakfast 14 ISH but then it does lower. During the night all good.

I'm on 8 units twice daily novomix.

I was on 10 when started over 10 days ago but getting a lot of hypos so nurse reduced.

I am speaking to the nurse this afternoon to review. Also when sugar high I get very tired and upset tummy.

I will let you know how I get on. I very much appreciate your help.

Best wishes kind regards

Hi @amapola and @granada.
This thread is confused as to who is replying to who with 2 of you posting.
In any case in order to help we need to know a bit more about your situation. How long have you been diagnosed, are you on any other medication and if on insulin what insulins and when do you take, what dietary advise have you been given and what is your HbA1C. All those things will influence what may be appropriate advise or comments.

Spiking up to 14 isn't ideal but it isn't anything to worry too much about. The important thing is that you come down again. I used to spike up to mid teens most mornings in the first few months. Better timing of my insulin before my meal improved it.
How long before you eat your breakfast do you inject the insulin?

Do you spike into the mid teens after every meal or mostly just breakfast?

I am wondering if they are one and the same person, but accidentally created two user names. They are both the same age which could just be a coincidence but possibly not.
