Being ill and type 2

So this a new one for me. First time I’ve been ill since being diagnosed with T2.

Everyone else in the family is ill as well. So it’s lots of comfort food, glucose drinks and sweets!

So far I’ve only had some chocolate, a milkshake (throat is on fire) and an iced bun. Dodged the pizzas, sweets and McDonald’s!

Sore throat sweets are sugar free but I bet they have carbs as well.

Even being ill is harder

I hope you soon feel better, plenty fluids, soup, sugarfree jelly, yoghurt, scrambled egg should slip down easily. Gargling with soluble paracetamol helps with a sore throat.
I don't think the carbs in a sugarfree throat sweet would be in the same league as an iced bun.

yeah I know on the iced bun lol just that the iced bun was breakfast and that was me done for the morning. The sweets are all day. But I’ve stopped them don’t see todo anything anyway.

Will try that gargle method !

Try the Difflam Sore Throat rinse @Damien It’s absolute magic and the only thing that got me through a very bad throat when it was too painful to eat.

Sugar free sweets are unlikely to have many carbs, but for drinks you might be better off with chilled sugar free drinks like squash or fizzy drinks.

I’m not having any glucose drinks. I’m doing my absolute best with keeping on track.

Hope all are feeling better soon, blood glucose always seems to go higher for me when unwell so its important to just do what you can with diet and any exercise, even if its just getting up from bed or chair every hour for a walk about the house.

Natural yoghurt with a dribble of honey or some fresh raspberries mashed in. Chicken soup for the soul is good, if you can manage to make it add some herbs seasoning, makes a good chicken broth. failing that just some cooked rice with some finely chopped celery microwaved for 30-40 second mixed in with the rice.

If you can get the low salt Marigold Swiss vegetable bullion instant stock powder, you can actually make a hot drink with it, delicious. You can also make a hot drink using vegemite. You just need things that are helpful. Hot lemon and ginger tea is also good if you can from fresh.

For sore throat the hot drinks will help but so will gargling with salt water, or if you have listerine total, and rub Vicks on throat and chest etc.

I meant the milkshake 🙂 If you want something cold to drink, then the sugar free drinks are worth a try. For some reason, I find the fizzy sugar free ones soothing when I have a bad throat. With the sugar free squashes, you can also make them up and freeze them in lolly moulds or in ice cube trays to suck for your throat.

Ice cube squash sounds amazing. Thank you!

It’s like I’m chewing razor blades. I’ve also got a swollen eye. So looks to be a “cold conjunctivitis” according to a quick google. I am on the mend though and lost some more weight
