Welcome to the forum @Flossie3

Are you aiming for the weight loss as your primary goal, or as a way to try to improve you blood glucose levels?

For forum members who are focussing on weight loss, several find the short-term (12 week) soup and shake / path to remission programme very effective. This involves only 800 calories a day, with Total Meal Replacement products, and can be highly effective at losing significant amounts of weight - particularly weight around the abdomen which can indicate visceral fat built up around organs like the liver and pancreas, stopping them working properly. Many members using this approach find that glucose levels improve naturally as their weight reduces.

The other approach popular with forum members is to focus on blood glucose management with a lower carbohydrate way of eating (typically less than 130g of carbohydrates a day). Reducing portions of all carbohydrates, not just the obvious sweet and sugary things, but bread, pasta, potatoes, grains, rice, and many fruits. Many members using this approach find that weight reduces naturally as their glucose levels improve.

Of course there are some that use a combination approach too!

Thank you. I need to loose weight and bring my blood glucose sugar levels down. I think lowering my carb intake would suit me better than restricting my calorie intake to 800.

For a lower carb approach the NHS Freshwell project is often offered as a starting point.

Hope it helps 🙂

I asked to be tested for diabetes last June when I discovered my annual blood test was not being tested. I was told my cholestral was creeping up. I cut out processed meat pastry cakes crisps etc. I don't take sugar in drinks nor drink fizzy drinks. I reduced carbs and as a retired fatty who had piled on weight in my early forties after a premature menopause. I started losing weight. At end of June the test was 69. I reduced potato and bread and dropped rice and pasta. One day my jeans fell down. My second reading was 64. I started metformin mid August.
Things changed when I was put on an SGLT2 and had to eat at least 130 gms carbs. What I find having been the generation that read the Fplan diet and always felt guilty about calories was it was so simple. If I bought something packaged I needed to look under nutrition but had no need to count calories, it was liberating. Fish and meat are almost carb free. Some veg particularly below ground has carbs. Be carefull about tropical fruit.
I now have Greek style 10% plain yoghurt plus berries and a few nuts or seeds for breakfast. As an alternative I have eggs and if I go to a cafe I occasionally have a full English without beans or hash browns.

Write down what you eat. Decide what to cut, what to replace and what to reduce the portion of. I no longer buy bread as I have a greedy gene but will eat it in a cafe. Before I stopped buying it I liked rye bread with smoked Salmon and cream cheese as an open sandwich. I love pasta but went to a restaurant with friends and decided it was no longer an option. I have bought alternatives from Holland and Barrett. I have eaten cottage pie bought at my WI market but I had a half portion with extra veg. Today I have bought some Majorcan new potatoes which I'm having with hake asparagus and romesco sauce.

I have lost more than 2 stone and my hba1c was 44 by December although I am still on medication.

Finally this website has a lot of information and on the left bottom under websites are links to Freshwell Moseley and Caldesi Good luck
