Hi everyone

I haven’t posted for a while but I hope you’re all well.

I’m gradually getting the hang of things but have a question. My sugars were doing ok, usual spikes after eating but not bad. However my consultant decided to add in metformin. Even though I’m type 1 he said it may help with control. I’ve been taking 500mg for a week and sugars are now way too high. Running at around 17 and alarm constantly going off on Libra. I’ve changed nothing else, diet etc. could the metformin be doing this? Any advice appreciated please

Why not stop taking it and see if things return to normal.
I was going to suggest a reason but realised it was probably rubbish.

That's so weird that your BG is running high now and nothing else has changed. Unless maybe you have a virus or something, but it is a bit strange that this has happened since going on the Metformin. It's definitely worth checking in with your DSN and seeing what they think about it.

It could just be a coincidence and your honeymoon period is starting to come to an end and your insulin needs are increasing.

Gosh how confusing for you @vicky1974

Certainly doesn’t seem like what your nurse would have had in mind!

I think briefly @PattiEvans added Metformin on top of insulin as a T1, but I don’t think it raised BG levels, and she wasn’t on it for very long I don’t think.
