Over the last few weeks I've been steadily increasing my time in range on the libre, it became a sort of game I played with myself to try and keep the levels down. This morning I finally got there, 100% TIR over the last seven days.
Just before starting insulin my average BGs were at least 11 and time in range was less than 50%, so I feel pleased to have got things under better management (I won't say control because I know they can change) in just three months.
I have gradually increased my Abasaglar to 30 units a day which finally seems to have hammered down my morning rises, and giving me fasting numbers in the 5-6 range.
I'm paying for a private C peptide test next week, to satisfy my own curiosity as to how much of my own insulin I actually still have. And I'm doing the carb counting session in May after which time they'll let me have the rapid insulin. 🙂

Make sure you do the correct preparation for the C-peptide test as I believe you can do either a stimulated test where you eat carbs at a certain time prior to the test or non stimulated, the normal ranges are different depending on which you have had.

This is a fasting one, water only for 8-12 hours beforehand

Wow well done @Lisa65

Great to hear that the improving Libre data became a motivation to work towards these amaxing numbers.

Hope the results of the cPeptide check are helpful in steering your way forward.

My C-peptide result came back at 270 pmol/l, Fbg 6.48 mmol/l.
According to the doctor notes attached to the results, the C-peptide is low but not super low, and the most likely explanation is long-standing T2 with beta cell failure.
This is pretty much what I thought but it was reassuring to have it confirmed.

Morning Lisa just really sen this thread and really well done on your TIR improvement. I did manage the same a year ago but that was when I was super keen and disciplined.
When I attended my day carb counting course and showed them they said they had never seen it before so it is an event worth recording.
I am now much more relaxed about not seeking “ perfection” so compromise between having a good TIR with living a more normal relaxed life.
See your at Peptide results have come back and hope that gives you some clarity but enjoy the rest of your w/ end.

Thanks @Wendal, I ruined the 100% result yesterday with a bowl of apple crumble, we don't usually have puddings at home but it was my stepdaughters birthday so we had a special meal at home.
As you say it's not necessary to be perfect, we have to enjoy life as well <3

Well done @Lisa65 .

Good that the c-peptide has confirmed for you what you expected.
As you say no need, and extremely unlikely, to be on 100% all the time, but those little moments are very nice to see.

Congratulations on your TIR. That's very impressive @Lisa65 .
You sound like you're coping well with the insulin doses. Glad you enjoyed your apple crumble. One of my favourite puddings.
I settled for a low carb caramel mousse instead.

I had a line similar to the Matterhorn overnight after the crumble, but it did eventually get back down by around 6am!

That's just the diabetes fairy reminding you that you're not off the hook yet 😱:care:

Good to hear your cPep results have confirmed things for you. And that you still have a reasonable amount of home-grown insulin helping to smooth off the corners.

Hehe! Always family celebrations to throw a spanner in the works when chasing those high TIRs eh?! Glad you decided to have the crumble anyway. Good to choose these things from time to time.

Yes, I was pleased to see I still have a bit of insulin working for me, even if it's slow to get going. After the carb counting course in May I'll be able to have a bit of rapid insulin to help out for future apple crumble consumption 😉

That would add so much flexibility! It surprises me how often folks seem to be started on basal-only, and have to develop weird workarounds before being ‘allowed’ a more fully flexible system.

They have to learn one thing… then throw all that out, and get used to a completely different system. Seems crazy to me.

Yeah I don't get why they think I can be trusted not to give myself 80 units of Abasaglar all at once, but I can't be trusted to give myself 2-3 units of novorapid to help with a carby meal! Oh well, it's only another couple of months, plus I'm away on holiday for two weeks in April, so the time will fly by!
