Anyone watching Crufts, if so what dogs or bits do you like
For us, it's the Fly ball and our local team are in the Quarters for the first time.

Just for interest, I have competed in Crufts with my Shetland Sheep dog in the puppy class many many years ago, sadly no longer with us.
His KC name was "Wainfield Sexton of Briarfield" we just called him Robbie 🙂

Terriers for me! Our first border terrier was the daughter of a Cruft's Best in Breed winner and was called Suteby Songbird, though I called her Baggins. She couldn't cut it as a show dog hence being sold at 9 months old to us, and she gave us 14 glorious years of unconditional love. We've had 2 more border terriers since then, one with a KC pedigree and one with more dubious parentage. Loved them all to bits and miss them still :care:

Both my dogs come from parents that are KC registered, but as they are Cockapoo's ie Cocker/poodle cross, neither can be registered with the KC

Great thread Alan and hounds day is the one I look forward to most just for the sheer variety and suppose have mainly had hounds from Ridgebacks to Daschunds over the years.
Used to go to Crufts a lot and always thought whether you are dog mad or not you would have a great day as so much going on and dogs can do so much.
I used to contrast that to when I used to go to International Cat Show which I always felt to enjoy you had to love cats as all they did was look appealing and all “glamour pussed “ up and did not really do a lot.

My allotment neighbour was telling me today that his dog had been diagnosed as diabetic, so he injects insulin once a day.
He is only 6 years old and was a rescue dog having been really badly treated as a puppy. The vet was very negative and basically said the best option was to euthanise him but they refused. They just have to be careful. It seemed as it was as a result of pancreatitis and the dog had DKA. It has lost nearly a third of his body weight and feels the cold.

Just like humans, dogs can live a normal and happy life with the right care

Yep LL virtually all Dogs suffering from diabetes are due to the Beta cells simply not producing enough insulin so they need an exogenous insulin.
Most are on twice daily injections so the fact your neighbour can get control on once a day is a real positive and great that they ignored the advice as dogs with insulin medication can live a completely normal life and will repay the love in spades.
Pancreatitis in dogs can be very debilitating though and certainly one of our Ridgebacks had it and had a relapse so we did get her euthanased as she repeatedly collapsed and was older.
But there is a big difference in clinical outcomes comparing chronic pancreatitis as compared to diabetes.

Flyball is so much fun!

I love the hounds, gun dogs, and working dogs too.

I love all dogs, big or small, but we haven’t had one for over 30 years. Ben the Border Collie was our first baby, we got him from a local farmer in 1981 for a tenner. He was smooth haired and quite small, he hated the Coronation Street theme tune and anything by Human League! He was a bundle of energy for his first two years and needed lots of exercise all his life until the very end. . When the children came along they loved him too, and he them. When he was 14 he became ill, I think he had doggy dementia, it was very quick thankfully. I’ve actually never got over it and we decided we’d never have another dog again. It would be like replacing a child. I get my dog fix all the time, eldest daughter has seven dogs. Two Vizlas, two Border Collies, Springer Spaniel, the last two I forget what the proper names of the breeds are but one’s a New Zealand hunter and the other is Australian cattle dog. Our immediate neighbours have two cross Dogue de Bordeaux/ boxers, and another neighbour and good friend has the sweetest whippet called Deidre. We still talk about Ben and still think Border Collies are the best dog in the world. If I catch Crufts, I don’t purposefully watch it, I do love to see the agility courses.

<3 border collies 🙂 had one as a child then unfortuantly had to give it to my gran due to siblings having an allergy, he loved cornation street tune at the end he knew after it finished it was time for walkies :D

oft 7 dogs for your daughter must be almost perm walkies time, bet they keep her on toes, alongside being fit as a fiddle.

would love to get back to fit enough to be able to take care of a dog. had plently oppertunities over last few years to get but can't give them the life they deserve :F

She’s a farmer so most of the dogs are running about all day. Apart from the eldest Vizla they all live outdoors in sheds/barns.

My westie had diabetes no way a wud off put her down, she lived good few years with it. She was fine with it, It was me that was panicking. I just couldn’t inject her hubby did, till I got my confidence with it. Now ave bloody got it, no problem injecting now

I love dogs and grew up with them. My mum always had two or three, and even at 80 she still has a little mixed breed who she adopted after it was found straying.
I didn't have my own dog until eight years ago, my ex husband didn't like them so we had a couple of cats. After he and I split up I moved in with my new partner and he was happy for me to have a dog. We adopted a 5 year old staffie and she lived with us for seven years until she got liver disease and had to be put to sleep.
I still miss her so much, but after six months we decided to rescue another dog and adopted a pocket American bully. She's only two years old and full of energy, but incredibly loving.
