for habc1 for a t2 diabetic on insulin?

There is no "normal range" for a Type 2 on insulin or indeed a Type 1 on insulin, just an individual rough sort of target HbA1c which has been suggested or agreed with your nurse or health care professional.
Using insulin means that they don't want to risk older people or people with disabilities having a fall due to too many hypos, so they often set a slightly higher target than for someone who is fit and active.

I am Type 1 and my consultant is happy with me achieving an HbA1c in the low 50s but is even happier if I can achieve mid 40s providing I am not having too many hypos. Of course I have Libre so they are a bit more focused on Time in Range (TIR) these days.

thanks am thinking of asking for hba1c test am doing well with levels bg day to day and want to know what it is when they did it a while back and didt tell me result just said it was the lowest it had been in two years
cheers

My DSNs told me they would be happy with anything 50 or below as an ultimate goal.

I'm still a way off but should hit that in the next few months.

My last test was 44 and my DN said I was too low for a T2 on insulin. She tried to get me to increase carbs and insulin. I didn’t. She is much of the school of thinking about matching carbs to insulin, rather than adjusting my insulin to the carbs on my plate. I did ask if I should still take insulin if I were eating a green salad for instance, but didn’t get a proper reply. I have had associated problems with ignoring my diabetes (heart attack, minor stroke then a Femoral bypass) that I want it to be as tight control as possible. I have never had a full blown hypo, been a bit low sometimes and needed a jelly baby, but that doesn’t really happen often.

i have another 6 months b4 i have my appoiment at else bertram at norfolk/norwich hospital so i must be doing something right as they switched it from 6 months cheak to yearly one Think i will ask nurse who comes to do my insulin if she can arange it

Lucky you! If it’s not changed, you are in the care of the best diabetic centre I ever experienced. Now having moved into Cambridgeshire, I can see exactly how good it really was! Even my consultant was a T1 diabetic!

was it prof samson?

he was a real gent i liked him a lot

Think so, yes. He tends to treat T2 on insulin the same as a T1.
In a lot of ways we are, chances are we're on insulin because of beta cell failure over time. OK some of us still have some insulin left but usually the first phase at least is shot.
