Christmas Pre-D Newbie :)

Completely understand. Up until 18 months ago I was hardly ever leaving my house because COVID made me so angry about the selfishness of people, I couldn't stand to be around them. I manage 10,000 a couple of times a week now and leave the house every day, that's so much better than before!

Any steps you do cost your body energy, and that's where the glucose goes. Doctors talk in ideals sometimes, maybe it would be ideal to be able to do a spin class* and a mile swim before breakfast but not everyone has the time, money or capacity. So we do what we can, and build up from there.

* I will never go to a spin class, I don't really know what one is

Glad you have found the information shared by forum members helpful @Winifreds child

And sorry that your Dr was rather dismissive of walking.

I can’t say that I agree that walking is ‘useless’, and nor does my body. As an insulin user I need to be careful about the amount of energy used by walking, because I can easily drop my glucose levels too far, even with a fairly modest amount of walking!

Oh I never thought of going too low not sure if that happens with t2 …until now my husbands aunty had t1 and she was the only person I have really known she had insulin had ups and downs got it at 29 and lived to be 87 a good life not like a poorly person thanks for the message

My knees aren’t up to spinning but I do have an exercise bike just to keep the joints flexible

It would be quite unlikely with T2 on no meds I think (unless very strenuous / mountainous hiking with no food?), but my experience suggests to me that walking is pretty effective at increasing insulin sensitivity and making it better at reducing BG levels.

Mike I think the "un" before "likely" may have got lost.

I think you might have meant unlikely, Mike?

Walking for health

Walking is simple, free and one of the easiest ways to get more active, lose weight and become healthier.

Sometimes overlooked as a form of exercise, walking briskly can help you build stamina, burn excess calories and make your heart healthier.

You do not have to walk for hours. A brisk 10-minute daily walk has lots of health benefits and counts towards your 150 minutes of weekly exercise, as recommended in the physical activity guidelines for adults aged 19 to 64.

And keep going when older while you can. All sorts of benefits out in the fresh air, wind and rain !!!

Ooops! Thanks @rebrascora and @silentsquirrel

I was given a little keyboard for my iPad at Christmas, and have turned Autocorronct back on. I blame that!!

Actually I suspect it is a glitch with the forum software as I don't have autocorrect and I am pretty sure sometimes I lose parts of words or whole words, perhaps when the page refreshes whilst I am typing. I haven't caught it in the act but find them later after I have sent it and then reread it and realise the sense of what I was writing has changed totally. Of course it may just be me having senior moments whilst typing but I am not totally convinced and of course that couldn't possibly be your excuse Mike! 😉

I'd turn 'Autocorronct' back off !!!

I have had it ‘off’ for years because of my fat fingers on on-screen keyboards, but with the little physical keyboard I *felt* like I was accurate enough to risk it again. A lot of the time it does seem to mangle far more words than it helpfully corrects though doesn’t it? And don’t get me started on some of the nonsense suggestions when you accidentally miss a space between two well known words (which often aren’t words at all!)

I think there needs to be a setting based on whether you are likely to mis-type (hit adjacent characters) or mis-spell (because you’re not quite sure of the correct spelling). I’m far more in the first camp!

I just can't spell

My key board is driving me mad at the minute, the space bar is not working on the right hand side which is where I normally press it so words are all running into each other unless I make a real effort to press in the middle, I then have to go back and put the spaces in. Grr. I have air blown it out just in case there was a crumb or something underneath but it hasn't helped.

Mine has got fluff in it and I need to prise off the keys to pull it out with tweezers.
Sitting at my desk watching telly whilst knitting would seem to be the cause - luckily I still have my dissecting kit on hand...

I have prised it off and given it a good blow out with an air blower and still no better. It sort of sticks upat that side.

Slightly off topic but do you know the man who invented autocorrect sadly passed away just after new year.

His family have put out a general invitation to all to attend his funeral given the impact he's had on so many lives.

His funfair is a whack next monkey...

Anything electronic which starts to misbehave badly gets a squirt with an aerosol of antistatic foam cleaner. - I've 'mended' quite a few electronic knitting machines with it. I order it by the box from RS (radio spares) but it might be possible to get it somewhere local to you.
