So, the day has almost arrived Tomorrow (a year since my last cholestrol chat) a f2f appoinment with the cholestrol expert from the surgery. Except after my last Statin adventure, that had me taken off them immediately as a result of my liver function test, I am now so much better prepared and informed... obviously knowing my place (ha ha) in the medical food chain) I will be polite and listen carefully, then I will offer my own suggestions That is the usual point when the trouble begins.

@Sharron1 I was bounced into statins at the end of September and don't know if my aches are age or the statin
Pretty much the same here.... was on 20mg of Atorvastatin and within a few months noticed my joints starting to get painful*. This got progressively worse after a year went back to the Dr. and said do something or I'm refusing to take statins. She changed the dose to 5mg of Rosuvastatin 3 months ago and I'm improving.... slowly.
*Was even having problems bending down to put my socks on!

Good luck stick to your guns hunny

I've only been diagnosed since 6th Dec and already had statins mentioned 3 times. I'm not even polite enough to listen to the spiel. I've just told them I'm not interested in them.

I took the thing last time for a few reasons, a) my cholestrol had crept up to 7 b) I was sick and tired of the nagging calls, texts etc and finally c) I was curious to see what might happen. Three months later, no discernable side effects had a liver function test, and that's when it all began. The statin had done a grest job on the cholestrol but received urgent call from Surgery to see GP THAT, day, taken off statin immediately, my livercenzymes had risen, weekly urgent blood tests to see if enzymes would normalise. They did. But alhough the GP told me my enzymes were slightly ekevated, the pharmacist at hospital told me a rise in liver enzymes with such a low dose of statin is very unusual. Great, I hadn't a clue what was going on.

In ny most recent LFT, they are fine, but chohestrol has returned to 7, with non hdl just over normal threshold. So, let's see what today delivers.

Hmm, that's the worry. I difn gave qny joint problems overcthe three months, my problrm was hidden. But javing a reasonable chat with most staff the surgery is almost impossible. I am still taking metformin x3 (check our my hba1c numbers over the years) Each time I tentatively asked for a reduction, the response was 'if it ain't broke don't fix it). It was only last year, when a fresh pair of eyes saw my numbers that metformin was reduced from four to the current three. A further reduction is also on my to do list.

Simply put, I just don't trust the surgery, they are good at prescribing but not explaining or making reductions at any appropriate time.

Yes my cholesterol is current a shade over 7. I can't see me ever really being keen on statins so I'll stick to the I'm not interested line and would tell them to stop any nagging texts etc also 🙂
