How do you count carbs for homemade soup, love lentil but not sure how to work carbs out. Do you just count everything in it then try calculate

I just guess 2-3 units for a bowl of soup on a roughly 1:10 ratio and if I need to, I correct later. Life is too short in my opinion for carb counting all the ingredients in a bowl of soup (especially with Lentils involved which are more tricky and with Libre or other CGM we can just keep an eye on things and sort it out later.

Yes, I love bacon and lentil soup... with lots of other veggies in it too. My problem is that one bowl is never enough and I have to just keep going back for more and jabbing more insulin. Thank heaven for CGM!

One bowls enough for me, as usually make apple crumble my favourite pudding, not made that either. I am getting bit more relaxed with trying different foods

Are you. making it yourself or eating out? I had apple crumble in a café last month and it was delicious. It was thefirst I'd had since diagnosis. I need to lose some weight so it was a one off treat. I have had several bowls of homemade lentil ( red lentil) soup at a local Iraqi cafe served with a homemade roll. When I go there it's because I'm shopping and walk a reasonable amount around the city but it does higher my bg. I need to make sure I stay in control despite my hba1c being 44 at the moment. I know she adds a few kidney beans for colour. As the owner cooks everything she would be able to confirm content.

@rebrascoras advice seems a good recipe for an enjoyable time for type 1s.

Yes making it myself and mibi the apple crumble, these are 2 off my favourites. Been quite strict with myself since being diagnosed, but been told by hospital to eat normal and snack to put weight on as lost 3 stone. I’m in the honeymoon phase so not needing much insulin

I still weigh the ingredients when I make a soup and calculate the carbs and total it. I am like @Inka and struggle to stick to one portion once I start. We split up the soup into portions and freeze these with the carbs labelled. On MDI If lentils included I add a note to carb label I would have knocked off a bit of the carbs (slower release with lentils) and kept a watch on levels.

Thank you doctor did mention lentils slower release. I only have one bowl, as have sweet tooth have to leave room for pudding

Same here @rebrascora couldn't be bothered to try to carb count it all, guesstimate then adjust later.

I add up all the ingredients carbs then divide by the number of portions.
