Yes I am weighing up whether I sign up for the Libre trial as like you say early days and gives more info and then long term manage with random finger prick testing
Based on your readings and regime you are unlikely to find any actions you can take based on the libre results so I’d not take the trial. You’d probably just panic yourself by seeing the readings between eating and 2hrs later when it likely spikes higher than you’re seeing now, and may also panic yourself overnight by seeing hypos when you lie on the sensor.

Thanks @Leadinglights I did not know that lancets could be reused by me

I would say you need to get an understanding of what info the finger prick give you before getting a trial of the Libre as it is easy to over react to the information that gives and also understand it's limitations. But many do find it gives a useful insight into what their response is to the factors which influence blood glucose levels.

Thanks @Lucyr and @Leadinglights for advice. This is one of reasons I not signed up for the Libre trial as finger pricking giving me info what I need right now without being overwhelmed and my husband felt same when suggested Libre as all the other positive changes in diet and being active is step on right direction so rather than get so overwhelmed by it all

Hello,

Really well done for getting off Glicizide and well done on your hard work.

TEE2 can be prescribed by your GP and I think are healer than the other brands.

CGM are expensive so for Libre 2 it is £30 for a fortnights use.

I think as you are on Metformin, not will be unlikely your GP will sanction the strips or CGM

Libre are actually £50 for a fortnight, just in case someone sees you post and thinks there may be some special deal they don't know about.

I was diagnosed with HbA1c of 114 and was immediately put on Gliclazide. I was on it for a couple of weeks as it did bring my blood sugar down. I was taken off gliclazide and ramped up on metformin. I felt terrible initially but the modified release metformin was not so bad. I used a low carb diet to lose about 3 stone and was able to come off all meds.
Unfortunately, my weight is starting to creep up and my BS is up. I know what to do but it is still a struggle.

Sounds like I am on similar journey as you medications wise and my first HbA1C was 129!

Congratulations on your 3 stone weight loss!! That is amazing. I have cut out all the usual white carbs and increased steps so will see how my weight loss goes. How long did it take for you to come off all medications?

You done it before and am sure you will smash it again! However agree it’s a struggle definitely a long term lifestyle change. I am trying to vary my roast vegs before I get bored of veg!!

It took me 14 months from diagnosis to coming off the maximum dose of metformin. My blood sugar is up and I should be getting an HbA1c done. I suspect that I will be put back on metformin if I go to the doctor so I am trying to losing weight again before I go.

Hello,

I have been on 1000mg for over 3 months, having been on the maximum 2000mg for over 15 years. It is still the safer medicine compared to all the others, but due to my kidneys cannot go back. I am on one 80mg Glicizide and can’t see that changing to 40mg soon, so sometimes just need to accept that the medicine is there to help the body. I have increased my carbs and hitting 150g per day and naturally my BG are averaging over 7.

Am sure you will do it again. All the best!

@Newbie777 Just realised reading your post that I too on maximum Metformin. Despite coming off the Gliclazide I was put on 2 x 1000mg Metformin in the evening. My average 7 day reading currently 6.6mmol.

I did get it down to 6.0mmol and for some reason my mums chicken pilau which had potatoes last Saturday did not agree with me and I got a 11mmol. Defo portion size as normally I can have basmati rice and my reading 2 hours after always under 8mmol.

Only have this kind of meal say once every say 3 weeks rather than the usual twice weekly! I have currently cut out the usual white carbs day to day however have the rice meal every day 3 weeks on a Saturday with the family. Was nice meal however took my average 7 day reading up to the 6.6mmol.

I need to check with nurse what she is looking for average wise to reduce Metformin slightly. When I was on Gliclazide she wanted me to get 7 day average of less than 8.0mmol before she would completely remove.

Just wondering what others have got reading wise before can consider slightly reducing metformin

Yes I understand the DN will advise you.

My situation was different, my eGFR (kidneys) had gone down from 60+ to 43, and I was bloated and GP thought I had kidney stones with the pain, it was only then after assessment that my Metformin was halved.

At the time my average was about 7.5, however after the reduction ln Metformin, my.BG levels spiked to average 10+ for 3 weeks, before the DN saw me and then put me on Linagliptin (Trajenta),

So for me I would say Metformin was key to my BG controls over many years.

Thanks @Newbie777 for reply. Will see what DN says however I expect she will want to see what my second HbA1C will be in new year and least I will know too if hopefully I am going down.

Hopefully I will be down from 129 and be under a 100 at least (I keeping my expectations low so not disappointed - secretly hoping diet and steps etc have made some difference!)

I think you have done remarkably well. It is a shame the HBA1c goes over the last 3 months and not last 4 weeks, but I personally think you will smash it, possibly under 80!

But even if you don’t, anything below your last score is super good.

The key bit is you know what you are doing, you know how to get there!
onwards and upwards it is❤️

Thanks @Newbie777. Let’s see where I am in January and will update here. My husband said similar figure. Like you say as long as it goes down least going in right direction so I will take that ❤️

Brilliant love the spirit and it’s good you are not on your own, like I said before you have really done well . Me well, having my next paratha in 1 hour and BG is 7 already, oops
