Hello, I’m new to being diabetic (T2) and I’m facing my first big test tomorrow. I’m off out for lunch tomorrow at a pub, nothing fancy and I’ll probably have turkey. Obviously pudding is out of the question (although they do the best selection!) but is there anything I should avoid with a pub roast?

The often serve Yorkshire Puddings with any meat though it only ever used to be with roast beef and roast potatoes. Depending on the size of the Yorkshire pudding, you could just have half and a roast potato. Any other veg should be fine.
Some places serve a mini pudding and a hot drink as an option which might be OK. You could look at their menu in advance and see what is available. Creme brule or profiteroles are not too bad for carbs.
It is one meal on one day so enjoy and don't worry too much.
Wine rather than beer is a better option.
 
We don't eat out often enough for it to really matter, though I always avoid rice or pasta. Two of our favourite places do the mini pudding option that @Leadinglights mentions and I always opt for a cappuccino and a mini brownie.

We go out every Sunday to the same place, I always order a roast , other things on the menu rice pasta i don't like anyway, my favourite meal is half a chicken, served with mash and roast ,Yorkshire pud, veg and cauliflower cheese, I have a desert mostly browne with cream or Lemon curd cheese cake and 2 glasses of wine, i don't eat all the Yorkshire pud or mash but have what i want, and for some reason it has never been a problem.
 
I love a carvery where you can load up your plate with veg, and if you're feeling a bit deserving, you can sneak a couple of roasties on as well :D I always avoid the yorkshires, and my pudding is a coffee so you feel well fed for not so many carbs.
 
Yes, I like a good carvery too. I have been instructed to get a Yorkie, so that my partner can have it. 🙄 It is the roast parsnips which are usually my downfall.
 
I tend to ask for meat, poultry or fish and just ask for a side of veg and ask them not to serve potatoes. I have a dessert on occasions and take the mini pudding if possible.

At a carvery I just leave off the potatoes and Yorkshire pudding -- same with Sunday lunch. I went out today for one and asked them to leave off the potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and stuffing. I just had the meat and a side of vegetables.

I am lucky in that I am not bothered about Yorkshire puds or potatoes but I suppose if others feel they don't want to go without them then perhaps just a small amount.

Is that because you can't stop eating once you start or because they spike you? Luckily, today they only gave me one and it did not have any affect when I tested later.
 
They definitely spike me, but I just can't resist them when they are all brown and crispy!
 
I love a good roast. And when there are 4-5 good veggie options on offer often I find I have little room for spuds. Find it hard to pass on a yorkie though.
 
As a veggie who is not a fan of nut roasts, I rarely have a Sunday roast. I do enjoy all the veggies when I do but think someone following a vegetarian low carb diet may struggle. It is hard to resist the crispy roasties and super sweet parsnips and honey glazed carrots and a puffy yorkie and, if you do go for nut roast, it is definitely more carby than a few slices of beef.

We often get offers from brewers fayre being member, they do good carvery where you help yourself to whatever you fancy, always good selection of veggies but meat is served on plate for you so not unlimited.

Love roast tatties & couldn't have Sunday roast without them, have to be crispy not wet in fat yuk.

ive never tried brewers fayre seen a few offers on facebook, the only problem i find with a carver is the veg tends to be over coked and soggy roasts, as you say they have to be crispy now I'm hunger LOL

Get what you mean about overcooked veg.

Although we have local brewers fayre we travel to one 25 miles away which is much nicer food, usually for Sunday roast so whilst out we make a day of things.
