Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi, I am new hear. Diagnosed with Type 2 last July, managed to get numbers down to 45 in October. Did this through diet, no medication. Was doing OK until a couple of weeks ago, now feel all over the place again, had two hypos in the last five days, numbers dipped to 2.9 at its lowest. I have not changed much in my diet, other than the occasional potatoes and chocolate....naughty I know. My numbers are never higher than 8 after meals. Can not get to see my DN until the 4th of April. Looking forward to learning lots. Thank you. Sharon

You say you've had 2 hypos, but whilst hypos are a risk for those on medication such as insulin they are not usually associated with T2s who are managing by diet, so I'm a bit puzzled and can only imagine it might be reactive hypoglycaemia https://www.diabetes.co.uk/reactive-hypoglycemia.html

What were your symptoms?

It depends on when you had the hypos, if it was after a higher carb meal than usual then your pancreas may have got a bit over enthusiastic and over produced insulin so sent your blood glucose a bit low. Normally the liver will jump into action and release some glucose to help out.
Keeping a food diary may help pin down a reason.

Sorry to hear about the hypos @MoonStar1970

The must have been pretty unpleasant!

Did they occur at roughly the same time of the day? Or was there any kind of pattern you could see - eg so many hours before or after eating? Have you been more active than usual recently?

As others have said, these are a little unusual in people who aren’t taking glucose-lowering medication, so lots of the standard advice online may not be very helpful to you :(
