I have type 2 diabetes and I have been offered 12 week weight loss group and I’m trying to find out what ones good slimming world or weight watchers any help will be great, only found out a week ago and try to get my head around it all .
I have done both and lost weight with both. Slimming World (SW) offer "free" food ie eat as much as you like. But there is no such thing as free food, and SW "free" food is very carb heavy. As a Type 2 diabetic it is suggested you reduce your daily carb intake to less than 130gm a day. WW has a more measured approach, but I was hungry all the time when I followed it. Both will work if you also monitor your carb intake along with it, and fill up on above ground vegetables and protein. I enjoyed the meetings and support from both, and weekly weigh ins kept me on the straight and narrow.
Now I use an app daily, plan my food in advance, stick to around 1200 cals a day and 75-90gm carbs. All I do is weigh my portions at mealtimes and adjust my plan in the app. No counting calories or points, which is fiddly, the app does it all for me. I don't know if SW or WW have developed an app as its been years since I followed either.
It can work for some people as long as you are aware as said that some of the foods will be too high carb but I believe that there are menu plans suited to people with Type 2 diabetes but you need to tell the consultant. However they may still be following the standard NHS advice which for many is too high in carbs and push low fat.

I am currently doing Slimming World, after a referral from the GP. weight loss is a bit slower than I would like, but have lost weight all but one week, when I stayed the same, currently down 1st 6lb and only 3 from target, 15 weeks done so far.
Remember the free food section is to choose from, not obliged to eat everything on the list, tell a consultant you are type 2 diabetic and they should give you an additional book or point you in the direction of the appropriate section on their app. As my consultant said when I questioned all the carbs which I didn’t want to eat, that you choose what suits you from the list, it is perfectly fine to leave out the pasta, rice and potatoes if that suits you, just the same as vegetarian members would ignore all the meat and fish options. For my healthy extra b, the more carby one, you can choose a small portion of cashew nuts or in my case I have 2 tbsp of sunflower seeds on my yogurt and berry breakfast, which was what I was eating before starting slimming world.
i am 15 weeks in and not felt hungry at all, haven’t had another HBa1C to see how it has affected that, but my waking readings have gone from being in the 7s to the 4s and 5s, and post meal readings usually only about 2d mmol more than pre eating.
As with any plan, there are pros and cons to weigh up. i needed the discipline of being weighed weekly by-someone else to be accountable, but some practice nurses will do this if you follow an online plan, however mine was only willing to do it monthly, which wouldn’t have been enough for me.

Mrs did SW after being told she was prediabetic, in just over a year she lost 5 stone & reversed diagnosis & all bloods since have been normal, as @Grannylorraine mentions above SW diet can be adapted to suit your own dietary requirements.
It is good to have input from people who have tried it as it helps to make the right decision for you. Finding a way that is enjoyable is important as otherwise it will not be sustainable.
I have done most slimming club diets and none of them ever worked as they were too high carb.
I was pushed out of most of them - they never offered my money back though.
I joined weight watchers 15 years ago and had great success losing 5 stone. I gather the eating plans have changed somewhat since then so not sure how that would work with diabetes as I personally now favour a low carb and higher fat diet for myself. But what I did get from the classes was amazing support from the fabulous inspirational leader and the other members many of which have become good friends. I don’t know if they still allow you go and sit-in for a try out before signing up but maybe take a look online and choose a group where you feel supported -they’re not all the same. I use NutraCheck. It offers a free trial then there is a small monthly fee, less than one cup of coffee a week. It is UK based and has thousands of foods in its database. There is MyFitnessPal, a free USA based app, which is also popular.
