At risk of diabetes
Hi
I've been using the above wraps, which I enjoy. Quite often I will use just half a wrap at a mealtime, warmed through then piled with diabetes friendly food. They are sold as having six carbs in each wrap, but reading the nutritional details on the back of the packet they appear to contradict this. For one wrap it quotes:

Energy Kcal 127
Fat 3.2 grams
Carbohydrate 14.6 "
Fibre 6.0 "
Protein 6.9 "

Is the fibre deducted from the carbohydrate figure? If so, if so I still can't get the figure down to 6 carbs.

I'd appreciate your help on this.

Thanks.

In the UK the fibre is deducted from the carbs number so 14.6g is the net carb content for one wrap.

Who's selling them as 6g per wrap?

No they’re 14.6g carbs each, you’ve just misread the number of wraps in a pack. Always read the nutritional information.

Oh, thank you all for sorting it out for me. I had indeed misinterpreted what is printed on the front of the pack: 6 CARB LITE WRAPS, believing that there were six carbohydrates in each wrap. I shall now retreat into a dark corner and hide away for a bit!

So obvious when pointed out, but it puzzled me too! A good case for using a hyphen.

At 29.3 carbs per 100g that’s not actually an awful lot lower than standard wraps nor what I’d call low carb.

Sainsbury’s do a lower carb wrap (4g each 9g per 100g) but they are expensive and honesty a bit “odd” although functional for an occasional use https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/bfree-high-protein-avocado-wraps-4x42g. The other wraps in this range are NOT low carb only this specific one. They are in the gluten free area.

I think using these is going to be good to switch me away from bread in general

Two or three wraps a week is achievable and better for me than getting through a loaf which is easy for me to polish off

If that’s the swap and idea then yes it’s the right direction.

However if you swap a sandwich (2 slices of Sainsbury’s own wholemeal bread 800g loaf = 29.4g ) for two of these deli kitchen only slightly lower carb wraps it’s exactly the same overall carbs (14.6g each).

I just double checked and a normal Sainsbury’s wholemeal wrap is 26.8g (ie the same as a sandwich) so yours are indeed lowER even if not actually low.

Thanks , I think switching and reducing is going to help

I have given up rice , pasta and potatoes in all their forms

But a sandwich or a substitute is going to need more effort

These are good. small ones (a good size) 4.6g carbs I believe

I’ve got some bread from Sainsbury’s that has 5g of carbs per small slice. It’s very nice as well. Called HiLo or something.

I keep a loaf in the freezer as I have a Sainsburys close by. Have a slice once in a blue moon.

The Waitrose livlife tastes better though and I think is even lower carb (3 per little slice I think) but I don’t have a convenient Waitrose to keep stocks up and never seem to have freezer space when I am near one

I tried that livlife and it’s okay, but our local Waitrose hardly has it in stock and we don’t go there often. I prefer the Sainsbury’s one, personally.

That reminds me, I need to freeze it!

I don't mind livelife it's so tiny though which I suppose is part of the deal ?

Very expensive though

Vowel is also pricey

OK if you are generally having less bread ?

Honestly I have one of those tiny slices every few weeks or frequently even less than that.

So in that case I am willing to pay more per loaf than if I were having half a loaf of normal size a day. An irregular treat should taste good yet do little damage. That to me is worth a premium.
