I missed having large wedges of chocolate cake, but since DAFNE I don't have to miss it anymore. (mixed blessing - waist gradually expanding). Only thing I still have trouble with since dafne is sugary drinks such as fruit smoothies. I LOVE them, but the humalog just ain't fast enough x

oh yes, smoothies is something I really miss having, was never a major fan before diagnosis but there's a new smoothie bar next to my work and I always get very jealous when my colleagues have them. But similarly, since dafne there's very little I can't have now so craving them may just be my way of being contrary!!!

Im going to miss not being able to have any After Eight Mints that I like at Christmas. Mince Pies and Cream.

Hey Annj - see you're in B-O-S. We camp there in a caravan, usually at the Burnham Rugby pitch or nearby.

I've been up and down to the Tesco's on the main island more times than I care to remember!

;-)

Paul.

Dont eat nearly as much chocolate as i used to. Loved it all, ate it every single day.

Still eat it though, uaually the dark stuff, quite like that now, eat maybe one or two squares every day. Usually after tea and doesnt seem to affect bs too much!

If I have a meal out never deprive myself, have a pudding if i want one. Also have one or two glasses of wine most nites. Just adjust insulin if having big meal out etc. Not done dafne but guessing is same kind of principle. Although it sounds bad am generally very healthy with food and cook lots of fresh food, hate ready meals etc . 😱

I allow myself a 'treat' every time I go shopping (only once a week). For some reason it is usually an apple turnover or similar. I can't give up bananas though. I am prone to cramp and 'nanas are good for that.

Have fun

JOHN

I also miss being able to get away without a handbag - pills, glucotabs, bit of fruit plus keys, phone and cash/bank cards at a minimum just won't all fit into the jeans pocket

This is the one thing I miss the most! Gone are the days when I could go out with a small handbag.

With regards to food, I allow myself anything, in moderation of course. Christmas will be tough though

I just miss not being able to have a food binge without thinking, **** my blood sugar level is gonna go really high!

and i basically hate that I cant just have a snack in between meals without my BS going high... i want to be able to eat whenever without having to inject extra insulin. but oh well 🙂

oh yeah, i miss this too hehe!

Trying to find a pair of ankle boots last week, realised I missed "unsensible" shoes too ..... anc still can't remember to put my slippers/trainers on in the house so go barefoot more than I should especially as I love to sew and often drop pins on the floor!

Realise as my husband's eyes light up at the sight of mince pies in the shop that Christmas might be more difficult than I anticipated. Last year, I was still fairly newly diagnosed and not as aware of what I can and cannot eat as I am now so this year will be more challenging in some ways.

Anyone have ideas to share on how they are going to manage? As Type 2 on tablets, diet and exercise can't adjust insulin. Luckily most of my friends and family now accept there are things I won't eat or drink but I have had to resort to Gretchen Becker's (TypE 2 diabetes: the first year) line of "it would increase the chances that I would go blind someday" after more tactful approaches on one or two occasions.

the only thing I realy miss is becing able to go out without taking loads of stuff with me. I always have to take a bag now with all my supplies. before I'd go out with a key, my phone and some change in my pocket.

I miss falling asleep at the wheel from high BGs.

Other than that, not a lot.

Just falling asleep at night without having to force my eyes to stay open to do my night time lantus jab at the same time every day!

What do I miss?

I love my food, cooking etc and this doesnt stop me from eating healthy and I love it. What I do miss is walking out the door with no medical equipment in a bag.

just bring the time forward for when you do your lantus, i take my lantus every night at 7pm as it seemed like a good compromise

I tried and it then seems to run out early the next evening and throw my eve mealtime readings all over the place so i had to move it back. Only other option was to split it but i didnt fancy the extra jab or added rigidity to my regime.

My doc has now suggested the pump so that we can try and get round it (and some other probs!) so fingers crossed!

What do I miss? Well, that's hard for me to say because I was diagnosed when I was five and I haven't really known a life without diabetes sadly.
Though if I were to choose something I suppose the utmost freedom in not having to plan what I'd need to take with me anywhere as far as medication goes.
