Please can anyone help me, what do people have to eat or drink to reduce their sugar levels back down to normal. X

Hi and welcome.

You have titled the thread Hypo, but a hypo is a low blood glucose level. Hyper refers to a high blood glucose and 20 is definitely hyper. Do you have any medication for your diabetes? If not, the best you can do is drink plenty of water to flush it out through your kidneys and avoid eating whatever pushed it up that high in the future. Keeping moving like walking will also help.

Would you like to tell us a bit about your diabetes and how you manage it? Things like:-

How long you have been diagnosed? How the diagnosis came about? ie Routine blood test or symptomatic?

What, if any, medication you have been prescribed for it and what dietary advice have you been given?

It sounds like you have a BG meter to test your levels which is great. Was that provided by the NHS or are you self funding?
When did you take that reading of 20? ie how long after your evening meal? And what did you have to eat?

I’ve been diabetic for about 17 years now, but just a lately I’ve been struggling, my sugars keep going up, I’m controlled my medication.
Been to the doctors today for my results, they have come down from 68 to 58, but still need to work at it to fetch it down further, my bloods tonight went up to 20.0 hyper, after eating a salad with chicken x
Just checked my sugars 2 hours after, it’s coming down slowly 13.5.
So I was just wondering what people drink or eat to help it come back to normal xx

I wonder if you could be coming down with a virus with your levels spiking so high after such a low carb meal. Did you test before the meal to know if they were already high before you ate?
What medication do you take for your diabetes?

Sorry I meant to put hyper

If you scroll up to the top of this thread @Twacey64 and look on the right hand side, you’ll see a little solid arrow with three dots to the right of it (looking at the screen). If you click the three dots, more choices come up, one of which is Edit Thread. If you click that, you’ll see your thread title in a box and can quickly change it to “Hyper” 🙂

Drinking water will help if your blood sugar is high. Working out why you’re high is sensible too (if you can).

I take 2 metaformin twice a day.
No I didn’t do my sugars before, but I have got something going on I’ve made an appointment to see the doctor, but it’s not till February 10th.

The diabetes weight loss cook book by Caldesi or the Pinch of Nom books or the Keto Kitchen
But you can look up low carb recipes on the internet or make some lower carb substitutions in your normal meals.
There are also recipes in the FOOD forum here (top left drop down menu).

Sorry to hear that you feel you’ve been struggling, but well done for your reduction in HbA1c.

Goodness 20 must have come as quite a shock! Did you have any bread or anything carby along with your salad? Do you think it might have been a dodgy strip? Or there might have been something on your finger?

Glad to hear it started to come down fairly promptly.

Hope you get some helpful pointers at your appointment in Feb. 🙂
