Hi AliS, welcome to the forum.

It's natural to feel overwhelmed when you've recently been diagnosed. It's good that you've joined us as getting support early on can really make a difference.

How did you come to be diagnosed and how are you getting on with things at the moment such as medication and managing food?

With type 2 diabetes, many people find that reducing carbs and increasing proteins and healthy fats helps with both blood sugar control and weight loss.

It can be a bit tricky to get the right balance to begin with so it may be worth keeping a diary of what you usually eat in a week then look at how you can reduce and or swap some of the carbs in your diet.

We've got some info on our main site that may be of use https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/enjoy-food/eating-with-diabetes/i-have-type-2-diabetes

Welcome to the forum.

Can you share your HbA1c reading result? It's the most important indicator of diabetes status. Up to 42 is normal, 42 - 49 is pre-diabetic and > 49 is diabetic. (Mine was 91 when diagnosed.)

Did anyone discuss the possibility of controlling diabetes by diet and without medication? It works for many of us but needs a bit of care when starting off and is best done in discussion with your doctor / nurse.

Before drastic diet changes, as you are on Gliclazide, do you have a meter?
It is a drug that can cause hypos if you cut carbs too much if you don't test.
Small reductions are better initially.

Do you need to lose any weight at all?

Hi @AliS

welcome to the forum & knowing your T2 diabetic,
do you think T2D has crept up on you recently,
or now you know the symptom,
do you reckon it’s been there awhile
just previously undiagnosed ?

as your being asked to take Glicazide, I’m thinking the GP should’ve offered you a
BS monitor PLUS most importantly add the required test strips to your prescriptions,

also
I’m thinking
because of the way Glicazide can possibly
in some people cause hypo’s, thinking you should notify the DVLA

You don’t need to notify the DVLA of taking gliclazide, only if you have hypos that need assistance because you couldn’t treat them yourself, or if you have hypos and aren’t able to recognise the symptoms.
