Hi I’m new to all this, my HBA1c is 42
Welcome to the forum, looks like you have been caught in time as that is just on the bottom of the 'at risk' zone so some modest changes to your diet should see your level drop below the magic number and prevent progression. Basically a wake up call.
There will be some things you will probably want to cut out like cakes, biscuits, sugary drinks including fruit juice or certainly regard them as occasional treats and be watchful of high carbohydrate foods like potatoes, rice, pasta, bread and breakfast cereals by reducing your portion size and having extra veg and salad or more sauce and less pasta.
Losing weight if you need to and increasing exercise will all help to put you on the right track.
The book or app Carbs and Cals is a useful resource as it gives the carb values of various portions of a whole range of foods and helps to make better food choices.

Hello @Lisa. and welcome to the forum 🙂

that was my first diagnosis and of course I did nothing about it carried on and year later it was 53 so then that really made me fit up. Don’t be like me, do something now. I bought mine down to 48 after three months and next test is March. As of today lost 30 pounds through low carb diet. I use the Nutracheck app which is great. Feel so much better. Hoping I can get into remission on next test. This has to be complete lifestyle change for me, I can’t get to goal then give up. Good luck. You made the most important step by catching it early.

Welcome to the forum @Lisa.

Hopefully a few modest tweaks to your menu should help your metabolism manage the carbohydrates you are eating a little more effectively. This can involve cutting out sweet and sugary things, but many members here find reducing portion sizes of starchy carbohydrates is a very useful tactic too.

Let us know how you get on 🙂
