Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Good Morning All,

I have been type 2 diabetic since the first lockdown, and joining the forum to get some information and hopefully some very nice diet plans.

Why now? Since I got diagnosed and was put on metformin 1 x 500mg twice a day and got my blood sugar level under control relatively quickly.

Until the last two weeks, blood sugar level, i cannot get it under 15.5 so this led me here to see some advice.

Welcome to the forum.
Have you been unwell as infection can raise blood glucose, some people have found the Covid vaccine has had some impact.
But good you are aware of the increase and can tighten up on your carb intake. It is easy for things to slip when things seem to be going well. Metformin only helps but also needs dietary changes.
This link may give you some new ideas. https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/
Have you recently had your HbA1C checked as that will give you an idea of the work that need to be done.

I have an appointment to check my HbA1C next week with a follow up with the Diabetes nurse in my doctors the week after.

Thank you for the link I will look at the site, I have been trying to keep my carbs under 130 the last few days and hopefully this will work along with more walking. Working at home does make us a little lazy.

Ah - for my blood glucose to be normal, I stick to under 40 gm of carbs a day - I am probably one of the mor outlying type 2s, but that might give you an idea of just how low some need to go - of course I have the meat, fish, seafood, eggs, cheese and yoghurt options available so there is no need for me to feel hard done by, and I don't.

I hear you I have a feeling I might end up being the same. But time will tell. I was ready to go no carbs but since I have metformin and glicazide I was advised I needed some. I agree about glucose levels with infection. I queried this also because I had a dental infection when my non fasting bloods were taken and was on metronidazole also known to increase glucose levels..but the fasting test was done a week later and still high but down from 19 to 13.I think the lock down has a lot to answer for with us , being stuck in the house limited exercise. I thought I didnt do much but makes you think.

Oh yes if you are taking Gliclazide then you should be testing your glucose levels and eating carbohydrate to prevent hypos.
I don't need medication so I can fast 12 hours no problem.
Infections do tend to elevate glucose levels, so you might find that you continue to see drops as you recover.
