Welcome to the forum
Certainly losing weight will help your situation as will some changes to your diet, that is going to be just as important as the medication which helps the body use the insulin it produces more effectively.
Many find a low carbohydrate approach successful in losing weight and reducing blood glucose and you ahve made a good start by cutting out those things you mention but it will need a bit more than just that.
Finding out what your result is for the HbA1C test which gave your diagnosis will help to know how much work you need to do.
This link may help you with some ideas for modifying your diet as well as some good explanation and some do's and don'ts https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/
Some find a low calorie regime suits them or a shakes based approach to kick start them on the road to a new way of eating.
Whatever you choose has to be enjoyable otherwise it will not be sustainable long term

Using a treadmill for exercise sounds like a good plan. If you're struggling with motivation, you could maybe listen to some of your favourite music whilst you're on the treadmill. Do you have a family member or friend that could exercise with you? Starting small might also help.

I look forward to hearing how you get on! 🙂

I moved my tredmill into the liveing room to watch tv and youtube videos while using it, it's on a low setting at the moment as i also have COPD and get out of breath quickly as for food i cleaned out my fridge and cubards and gave food to my neighbour in the flat below me and bought in lots of veg as for meat besides chicken i haven't a clue whats best for me. thank for replying.

Hi @DWJ and welcome to the forum.
While exercise is good, it has its limitations so far as diabetes control and weight loss are concerned. The main problem being that (apart from muscle building exercise such as weights) the calories you burn doing the exercise tends to make you more hungry and so people often eat more carbohydrates when they exercise more. So unless you really like doing it, don't bother doing more than the NHS 30 min brisk walk 5 times per week.
All (digestible) carbohydrates turn into sugars in the body and thus raise the Blood Glucose levels making the diabetes worse.

If you eat fewer carbohydrates, then you will tend to lose weight even if you eat the same amount of calories because eating carbs for a Type 2 diabetic causes more insulin in the body, which causes fat sugar to be stored a s fat cells and existing fat cells to be ignored rather than used for fuel since you can't be both burning and storing sugar as fat at the same time.

Sounds like you are off to a strong start with some big menu changes and the increase in activity!

Sorry to hear you are having to force yourself to use your treadmill :( Are you getting any ‘feelgood’ endorphin kick after exercising? That might help you keep going?

Or is there a form of activity you can think of that you might get enjoyment from - even if it’s not as obviously strenuous… Gardening, allotment, walking, some sort of sport or team activity? Sometimes having others alongside that share the endeavour help to keep you going when enthusiasm wanes, as you feel committed to them.

Good luck! And let us know how things go. Have you got another check-up or follow-up appointment on the horizon?

As far as foods are concerned then any meat, fish, eggs, cheese, dairy are all zero or very low carb foods as well as vegetables, salads and fruits like berries. High meat content sausages are OK.
