I am Pre-diabetic. Had telephone appointment with dietician today which was no help at all as they only offer group sessions online which I'm not interested in as I need to gain weight

Welcome to the forum
It is a problem that most dietary approaches assume that people with Type 2 diabetes need to lose weight which is not always the case. If you have suddenly lost weight then there may be a reason to suspect Type 1 but usually blood glucose would be pretty high not pre diabetic, there is something that is mentioned called TOFI (thin outside fat inside) which could apply to you.
As you are only prediabetic you may only need some modest changes to your diet, reducing carbohydrates but making sure you have protein and healthy fats along with veg and salads and fruits like berries to help with the weight issue.
Have a look at this link as you may find some suggestions to help you. Although aimed at people who need to lose weight there are good principles for blood glucose management. https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/

Thanks for your reply. This is helpful and as I have Gastritis most of the foods on your list is mostly of what I eat

Many people find that reducing carbs actually improves their symptoms of various IBDs and gastric issues.

Why not try the online group session? It’s worth learning what dietary changes are good for diabetes and there should be chance to ask your own questions. Saying you’re not interested just makes it seem like you don’t want to prevent getting diabetes.

Didn't mean I wasn't interested in preventing diabetes. Only that I wasn't interested in a zoom session as I don't use zoom

So you are interested in learning more about preventing diabetes, so long as it doesn’t involve learning new technology like zoom? Don’t let fear of technology hold you back. You’ve connected to this forum so you clearly have a device, internet access and either the skills to use the internet or someone willing to help you. There’s no reason you wouldn’t manage to learn to use zoom.

Hi Janette B, welcome to the forum.

It's great that you've joined the forum at this stage as you should bee able to avoid entering into the diabetic range.

Som GP practices are limited with regards to the support they can offer hence the online option so it's worth giving it a go. Zoom is quite straight forward and there are lots of tutorials on Youtube should you get stuck.

We've also got lots of info on the site so do have a look around and let us know if we can help in any way.

A caravanning friend of ours got involved into Zoom pdq once lockdown started since he gave ukulele lessons for his local U3A hence already having the necessary technology decided to also use it privately so all his mates could keep in touch both with him and each other so we went OK .....

Basically if you can receive emails and are capable of clicking a link in an email - you're up and running!
