At risk of diabetes
Hi have been recently diagnosed as pre diabetic and am trying to find my way around the minefield of information.
what are good foods to eat? also one of my problems is most of the recipes I'mseeing are vegetarian which doesn't sit well with me (I like my meat) I'm quite happy to cut down but not cut it out completely.
also I'm over weight I am doing slimming world and have already lost a stone (only another 3 to go) but because of other health issues can't do much exercise.
any advise greatly received.

This link may help you then, https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/ You probably only need some modest dietary changes.
Some people find SW helpful but they have to be selective as some of the meals are a bit carb heavy but bulking out with veg and salads work.
Meat and fish, eggs, cheese can form the basis of good meals. Cutting down on portions of the high carb big hitters like potatoes, rice, pasta, breakfast cereals and tropical fruits as well as cakes, biscuits, pastry, sugary drinks including fruit juice.
Have a look in the food forum here for recipe ideas or search the internet for low carb or keto recipes, there are plenty out there.
Interesting you say most recipes are veggie as those who are veggie say they struggle to find suitable recipes.
Welcome to the forum by the way.

Hi @Beetee07 and welcome to the forum.
Wat made you thing vegetarian eating was good for T2 diabetes. In fact vegetarians find it extra hard to control T2 and vegans find it almost impossible!
While Carnivores never get T2 in the first place because meat, fish, eggs, most cheese and full fat dairy hardly contain any carbs at all !.

Even the recipes in the book I received this morning in the welcome pack was all vegetarian no meat in any of them.
I’m still finding my way round this site so will definitely look at the recipes.
As for the keto diet everyone I’ve looked at all want subscriptio.

Because all the recipes I’ve looked at all contain no meat so hence the veggie comment.

Well done on weight loss so far.

Listen wife was in same position as you, was overweight & told she was prediabetic, she like you joined SW then went on to lose 5 stone, great news is that all bloods since have been normal meaning she is no longer in prediabetic range.

What book have you got?
You can easily spend loads of money on recipe books and there are a few good ones out there but I find the internet is just as good for finding things. It is hard to recommend things as everybody's tastes are different.
Chilli, curries but using dry spices or pastes rather than jars of sauces is lower carb.

Hi Beetee07, welcome to the forum.

Well done on you weight loss, it's a great step in the right direction. Re food, there are lots of meat based options as the goal is to reduce carbs and sugars so you eating meat isn't a problem.

An example I share is that instead of having steak and chips you may have stake and steamed veg, just replacing the carbs and sugar with something that doesn't impact your blood sugars as much.

We've got lots of info in the food section of the forum and some ideas on our main site so do feel free to have a look.

How strange as eating vegetarian can be a problem if your tolerance of carbs is really low, like mine.
An ordinary type 2 diabetic can eat any meat, fish, seafood, eggs and cheese, yoghurt along with low carb veges, salad stuff and fruit. I keep to foods with less than 11 percent carbs, though usually go lower.
I have been eating low carb whenever I could get away from medical supervision and found that Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution had a fair few good recipes, but also hints on what to eat and levels of carbs plus why to eat like that. The 2003 edition used to be available for pennies - there were so many sold that they are probably still around.
These days, to maintain a normal level of BG I eat twice a day and keep to under 40 gm of carbs, as that is what my meter showed was what I needed to do to have normal numbers. I suspect that few need to be as strict, but I spent so many years protesting that carbs made me feel unwell, but was pressed to eat them because they are 'healthy' I can't see me ever repairing my metabolism to what it was before all the low fat high carb advice started.
