Hi Everyone,
I am new here, looking forward to hearing peoples news and views and experiences on diabetes.

Hi and welcome.

Would you like to tell us a bit about your diabetes. Things like....
How your diagnosis came about.... symptomatic or routine blood test?
How long you have been diagnosed?
How you manage it? ie. diet and exercise/medication and if so which etc.
HbA1c if you know it.... This is the blood test used to diagnose and monitor your journey with diabetes. It is usually a number in excess of 47 if you have a full diagnosis, as oppose to 42-47 if you are prediabetic or "at risk".
Do you home test your BG levels?

Please make yourself at home on the forum and feel free to ask any questions that come to mind. Hope you find the input of other diabetics as reassuring, supportive and informative as I have over the last few years.

hi @Graham01 and welcome to the forum, I've only been here a few weeks but you'll find there are lots of friendly, knowledgeable people on here who are happy to help.

Hi Everyone,

Hi Barbra/Wannie,
Thanks for the reply.
I was diagnosed June 2022 as Type 2
Started on Metformin.
HbA1c 90 is 50
Cholesterol 6.9
I have so many symptoms of feeling generally unwell aches, pains, tiredness, poor sleep etc... I had a blood test and that is how I found out I have type2 diabeties.
I started almost straight away with a diet change and loads more excercise and now I am off the metformin, I did weigh 11st 5lb and now weigh 10st 1lb, had some ups and downs days as far as feeling not very well, although in the last 14 days been feeling a lot better within my self, I have been following a low carb diet and am still getting to grips with what foods are good or not so good. There is so much to learn. Some recon I have been brutal with the diet change, I am sure I have not, I just stopped eating all the wrong things at the wrong time of day that was a habit, I have changed what I eat and when I eat, buscuits and cakes are now a treat and not the norm.

Hi graham01

Welcome, I’m similar to you. Just started to change what I eat.

Any tips would be welcomed

Hi, Sophywow, I started with 10,000 steps a day for exercise in that I include uphill and steps, cut out most process foods, cut back on potato rice and pasta, I use brown pasta and brown rice, I eat nuts and seeds as a replacement for snacks, cut out cakes and biscuits, stopped drinking beer switched to wine, when I get to my target weight cakes and buscuits will just be a treat.

Congratulations and well done on the weight loss and the drop in your HbA1C so quickly! 🙂
Yes I've found there is lots to learn too and have found the book, recommended on here, carbs & cals to be invaluable.

I also went low cab following the principals in this link https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/
Sadly brown versions of things like bread, pasta and rice are just as high carb as the white. Butternut squash, celeriac, swede or cauliflower are good alternatives to potatoes.

Welcome to the forum @Graham01

Sounds like you’ve made some very positive changes, and are getting some encouraging results.

I don’t think there’s one foolproof method that would work for everyone as we are all so different. For some gradual incremental changes work better - while others prefer a bit more of an “all or nothing” approach.

Doing things more gradually certainly seems to be kinder on the fine blood vessels though, so a slow and steady approach can be a bit safer.
