Intolerance to meds

If you are continuing to see high glucose levels despite a very low carbohydrate diet, it may be worth asking your Dr for a cPeptide check.

Approx how many total carbs (not just sugars)do you think you are eating per day?

In T2 you would expect insulin resistance to lead to a fairly high level of natural insulin secretion (which a cPep check can measure), but other forms of diabetes where the islet cells have become compromised would show a lower insulin output.

It may be that your type of diabetes ought to be reviewed and confirmed?
Hi there my total carb intake daily is 100g, sometime less. I will go to my GP and ask for the test. My GP says they will wait for consultant but actually this is not good enough as I need meds now. Thank you for your advice regards Hazel

You could perhaps knock a few g carb off that by going back to normal milk or cream as oat milk is quite high in carbs.

Hi there, just an update.. Finally got to see the endocrinologist who looked at my history of intolerance to meds and immediately put me on daily injections of liraglutide. This is a game changer, my blood sugar ranges from 6 - 8.5 and I've lost 3kg. I feel, dare I say it, normal! I am currently suffering from long Covid, which impacted my sugar levels, which in turn hurt my recovery. I'm now able to work a few hours a day and feel so much better. There are side effects, nausea and sore tummy, but not the projectile vomiting I had before. I continue to eat well and have to set my alarm to eat because I don't feel hungry. There is light at the end of the tunnel!!!

Hi Hazel
Sorry long covid is messing with your clearly awesome management.

I'm also a bit rubbish with meds 🙂 You aren't alone in that.

Just wanted to drop this link in for you
https://forum.diabetes.org.uk/boards/threads/nice-sign-flowchart-for-t2-medication.99813/
The post has numerous links to the typical medication pathways for a T2 so you could have a look and see what else there would be to try that you haven't already and look into those meds more and be prepared for the likely options.

I hope you get on top of it again either way you choose to go 🙂
Hi there, I read the link showing the critical pathway of drugs to try first, and was armed when I saw the endocrinologist. He immediately prescribed Victoza injection daily. A complete game changer, I'm so much better now, even the long Covid is less horrible! Thanks again for the link, really helpful

Ah thanks for the update @Hazel Purple - and what fab news 🙂

So pleased you are feeling much more yourself again.

Sorry to hear you are battling Long Covid, but it sounds like you are pushing through it. 🙂
