My sons blood sugar is 7.1 tonight, should he still take his 8 units of insulin before bed as this is the lowest it’s been of an evening, before he’s been around 15? worried of taking too much

Is it basal or bolus? If it’s basal then it’s important to take it at the same time every night as without it his blood sugar will go too high. If he’s nervous about going to bed at 7 then can set an alarm to check overnight.

How have his levels been overnight @Sue-Ellen ?

Does he generally wake up at around the same level he goes to bed on?

Ideally his basal (background) insulin should be just enough to hold him steady through the day and night when he isn’t eating or misses a meal, but not so much that it makes his levels drop more than 1-2mmol/L.

The dose of basal insulin he will need to achieve this can and will change over time, so you might need to chat to his DSN about tweaking the dose if his flagging pancreas is having a bit of a second wind!
